  1. May be a “loss” in the standings, this game was a win with the way Wesnesky pitched. And Adbert with 5 of his 6 recorded out being Ks.
  2. G, DAWGS, GO!!!
  3. Life of a career minor leaguer, and he had it good for about 9 months, as opposed to most Good luck Tank!
  4. :flythew: :flythew: :flythew:
  5. I’m glad Trevor Williams did not start this game as it’s evident he would get 27 strike outs.
  6. Make it 6-0 and still batting in the 1st.
  7. Anthony Rendon can’t stay on the field, or in the lineup. And when he has, he’s not been anywhere near what they thought they were getting. Jo Adell hasn’t (yet) met the fanfare of a highly touted prospect.
  8. Don’t know where to put this, so I’ll drop it here. I searched “battered” and “bastards” and couldn’t find this mentioned, but if you haven’t seen it, “The Battered Bastards of Baseball” is a really good, really fun documentary. It’s on Netflix, and apparently it’s from 2014. I highly recommend it. It’s about Kurt Russell’s dad, Bing, creating an independent A ball team in Portland, OR in the ‘70s. The first indy minor league team. Talk about pushing back against the MLB machine.
  9. Thanks for the info! I try to keep up on the minors, but I guess I missed that.
  10. Question ref Matt Mervis: Given his productivity, age, and the fact that he’s been at AAA, is there any particular reason he’s not up with the MLB Cubs? I haven’t read anything about any reason. The only thing I can think of is they’re waiting for the Iowa season the end. Not certain why in September he’s not given a shot over/in addition to Rivas.
  11. I wouldn’t put much stock in week 1 of the NFL. There are a few teams that, barring some significant injuries, are definitely going to be good (the usual suspects), And there are a few teams that won’t sniff 5-6 wins. Aside from that, week 1 IMO doesn’t really give a good read on the majority of teams. So to project out the second half of a schedule opponents is mostly fruitless. There always seems to be a few team that overshoot their expectations and a game(s) that looked winnable in September turn out to be tough games. I think there’s a much better read on teams after the first weekend in October. Side note, any significant injuries from week 1 for the Bears? Packers rookie MLB (1st rounder) is dinged up and won’t practice. And his backup is out for several weeks. Nobody seems to know if their 2 ProBowl O-line are ready to play. But they may get WR Lazard back for week 2.
  12. Could even have called a play quickly (or called two before the third down play) and if you don't get it, you have 3 timeouts left where you could get the ball back if you get a quick stop. Unlikely you drive down in 40ish seconds for a FG attempt with no timeouts but we've seen crazier things happen. Like you said, just an awful decision. With the time outs in hand, could have run at least, one more play if not, two, to give themselves better field position for the FG. I don’t think the issue was not having time to run plays. They clearly did with three TOs left. The issue came down to running down the clock and attempting a 64 yarder or making a 4th and 5 conversion. The HC thought they had a better shot with a long FG than a conversion. And that’s insane.
  13. Stro a bit unlucky today. Had his third lowest exit velocity of the year. The HR was a monster shot, as was a double. Not much else.
  14. Link to Article Keibert Ruiz has some balls. Apparently some really LARGE balls!
  15. Congrats Mr. Wesneski!! :flythew: Final stat line for first MLB victory: 5 innings, 2 H, 1 BB, 8 K, 0 R
  16. I’m not even certain how there was any consideration in NOT walking Pujols there?!?
  17. FWIW, I believe in week 1 and the last week of the reg season, there are two early games in every market and two late games in every market that get tv time. And the Bears/Niners game is the Fox early “game of the week”. So unless you live in a specific Fox market of a team playing the early game, you stand a good chance of having aired. I live in southern AZ and I believe I will get to see GB/Minn as the late game on Fox because the AZ Cards are playing the late game on CBS. If the Cards were on Fox, I wouldn’t get GB.
  18. I only caught the bottom of the ninth, but that works!! :flythew:
  19. I believe they are released/announced the Wednesday before the weekend. It may be the Tuesday before, but I believe it's Wednesdays. Here's a link I check in with each week: https://506sports.com/nfl/index.php
  20. What’s with that change-up throw to home by Weber!!? Looks like was throwing a fade to the corner of the end zone.
  21. Not following the connection with “Alabama”?
  22. I tuned in with Hoerner on second, two out and a full count to Morel. Morel gets hosed on a called strike that had to be a few inches off the plate. In comes Rowan Wick and a couple of quick singles, an error and a HR. Suddenly it’s 4-0. I vomited a little in my mouth, tuned out and went for a run.
  23. Would they cast him off too if TLR decided to come out of retirement again?
  24. An error, an out and a Happ dinger. No-hitter gone. Shut out gone. Cubs up 2-1!
