  1. Didn’t see the 5th inning, but in the prior innings I thought Assad showed well. Had some runners on base in every inning. But for his first start, he didn’t seem to really get rattled. A lot of pitchers in their first starts would’ve unraveled. So kudos to him for giving up runners but not runs.
  2. Assad gives up a lead off double, but escapes without giving up a run: K, pop out, weak ground out. He’s living a bit dangerously, but showing poise.
  3. A shaky third inning with a hit and a couple of walks. But he escapes, leaving the bases juiced without giving up a run. Sixty pitches through 3 innings. Hopefully he can go at least one more inning.
  4. Follows up the K of Pujols with a full count BB. Then on 3-0, the other future HoFer (ya’ know, intangibles, and he plays the game the right way) swings at ball four. Then pops out weakly to first. Two innings in the book and looking decent.
  5. The kid through a 1-2 heater on the outside corner, and the home plate ump gave him the call. Assad Ks future HoFer for his first MLB strikeout. Take that ball out of play!!!
  6. Couple of hard hit FOs, so there’s that.
  7. ….because they seem to lose when I start a game thread. But, the kid showed some moxie in the first inning. Gave up a lead off late swing double followed by a wild pitch. Man on third, nobody out. -gives up a late swing but hard hit ball to SS (playing halfway) and runner holds; -gives up late swing, hard hit ball to 1b which Higgins throws out runner at home. -gives up chopper to SS to get out of the inning without allowing run to score. Thirteen pitches, 8 strikes.
  8. At least knee/leg issues don’t ever lead to arm/shoulder issues. So Tony dodged a bullet there.
  9. Nice comeback win yesterday when they very easily could've lost. But that's soured by today's pen performance.
  10. Bullpen failed Steele, as did the offense, so far.
  11. Thank you Yan Gomes for that perfect laser throw.
  12. Franimal with another hit. His batting stance reminds me of Vlad Sr. the way he holds the bat high near his temple and waggles it.
  13. Happ with career HR #100!! 1-0 cobs!
  14. Madrigal led off the first with a 13 pitch FO to RF. He swung at 9 of the first 12 pitches, which according to pitchtraxx, all would've been called strikes. The only pitch out of the strike zone was pitch 13 which was borderline, too close to take, and he flew out. Great AB for an out.
  15. Steele Ks the first three Brewers on 16 pitches, two looking on great pitch locations. LET'S SWEEP 'EM!!
  16. First pitch of the 9th is a rocket down the third base line for a double. Perfect no-no is over.
  17. Drew Rasmussen has a perfect game for the Rays thru 8 innings on only 79 piches.
  18. Also a better return than they got for Kimbrel! I'm still holding out hope that Cody Heuer is the real gem in that deal.
  19. He’s a big boy. Put him on a diet in Arizona this winter. Maybe he just needs to get a little taller.
  20. Gallardo with a rough line today: 4.1 innings, 10 hits, 5 ER, 1 HR, 0/3 BB/K. He was throwing strikes (60/86) but not really missing bats.
  21. Soto's still in the game for the Nats, so there's that.
  22. Ryan Jensen through 15 pitches in the 1st inning, 5 strikes and 10 balls. He gave up a HR, walked a batter on 4 pitches, hit a batter after a 1-2 count, and then got a GIDP. Lot going on for throwing only 5 strikes but only allowing 1 run.
  23. Visitors load the bases in the first but can' t score. A strong outing by Smyly might net the cubs something by Tuesday.
