  1. I haven't seen a thread about this, but if I miss it, my apologies. http://www.sbnation.com/mlb/2014/1/31/5366136/cubs-james-mcdonald-sign-contract-free-agent

  3. Haven't seen this posted. If it has, my apologies. Roch Kubatko @masnRoch The Orioles have acquired OF David Lough from the Kansas City Royals in exchange for INF Danny Valencia.
  4. Perhaps, but the Royals needed a RF, 2nd Basemen (this one still need addressed, I'm not sold on Bonifacio), and a starting pitcher (who they got Vargas). They're banking on the hope that Moose and Butler's numbers would be improved in 2014. Butler, I could see that, but I have my doubts on Moose.....
  5. I can't deny that he technically is a bat. I know that the contract, combined with his age, will suck for the Royals in 2016, but if they get Beltran, it tells me that they're all-in for the 2014 season to make it into the playoffs. Plus, he'll be playing in the AL, which he can play some DH, give Butler a day off, or send Butler out at 1st, to give Hosmer a day off. There's some flexibility there. Just glad the Royals finally got rid of Chris Getz. A year too late.....
  6. Yow Yeah, that's totally crazybuckets. LOLRoyals Not sure why it's funny... but the Royals needed a bat.
  7. I think they'll middle load it, which would coincide with James Shields contract off the books, and before the young players get more expensive.
  8. Buster Olney twitter: @Buster_ESPN: Other teams becoming convinced that Carlos Beltran is going to land with the Royals, on a deal of 3/$48 million.
  9. So what would be the point of selling the team? So he could really enjoy his 90s? I wouldn't know, I just threw it out there. The rumors when they signed Fielder was that he was willing to up the budget because he was getting old and wanted to win before he died. Right, I'd believe that. But now Fielder is gone, and Fister is gone.... I've looked around long enough at neutral baseball message boards to conclude that the entire baseball world is now chortling at the Tiggers. Not many people likes this trade for them.
  10. So what would be the point of selling the team? So he could really enjoy his 90s? I wouldn't know, I just threw it out there.
  11. Just also thought of this.... Could it be that Illich is dumping to sell the team? The guy is 84 years old, so....
  12. What the heck is Detroit doing? That's a horrible trade. The Royals chances of making the playoffs just went up more tonight than they likely will all offseason. What a colossally stupid deal for Detroit. The Tigers just took a 5 win hit seemingly just to make a 7M salary dump.
  13. So let me see here.... First Boras criticizes the Cubs for spending on the stadium instead of the players, saying that is what people come to see; then he turns right around and states the Rays need a new stadium because people aren't coming to see them.... :-s
  14. Yep. I looked at some of those for fantasy baseball purposes in March and he seemingly had half the starters in the majors going over an .800 OPS. There was a really funny moment last offseason where these came out (also not affiliated with Bill James, incidentally, they just bought his name to put on them) and a Royals blog ran an excited post how if you added up all the WAR that those projections accounted for, it had the Royals at like 90 wins. Then that turned out to be 10th in the AL or something, because it had everybody with amazing win totals. They came close though.
  15. Herrera was demoted to AAA because he had no confidence on his secondary pitches, and when he was throwing secondary pitches, they were too wild. Batters were also realizing that his off-speed pitches were nowhere in the strike zone, so they sat on the fastball. He also has a great fastball, but sometimes it straightens out that it eventually ends up being out of the park. He has potential, but he also reminded me of Marmol, mostly because of control issues. Cain is a good player, but the problem with Cain is his inability to stay healthy. He missed some significant time because of a groin injury, and other various of injuries. But he is a very solid defender, for the most part. This is just my recollection off of memory. I'm sure there's more that I am forgetting at the moment.
  16. Okay, so let's say you're the GM for the Royals. Who do you trade away in order to get either a productive bat for either a 3rd baseman or 2nd baseman without sacrificing too much of your farm system, and the player is also can be controlled in 2014? They're only 7 games behind the AL Central, and if my math is right, 5 games behind the last WC spot.
  17. Agreed. Either way, I did at one point disliked Soriano a lot back then, but I have grown to tolerate him because of what he brought to the team, his work ethic, that he was a good all around person. He isn't perfect by any means, but I am also aware that he isn't the worst. Good luck in NY Soriano, and thanks for everything you gave to the Cubs.
  18. i have no idea how he hit that one so hard Beltran smoked that one. If it was not blowing in, that'd be 2 homeruns in this inning....
  19. Wow. Darn near ran himself to an out....
