  1. Too bad they locked the Stupid DeRosa Signing thread - would be another good bump tonight.
  2. Who's doctor Woo? http://www.sagehealthcare.com/people/shin.shtml So that's who Steely Dan were signing about! Steely Dan was making music for the deaf?
  3. Even though you guys look to draw Peavy, Maddux and Young that series? No thanks. The Pirates are pesky, but I'd rather play them than the Padres regardless of venue. You can talk about deceptive matchups, but the fact is that neither the Brewers or Cubs are that strong. All Cubs fans should be cheering for the Phillies, Rockies, Dodgers and Braves so that the wild card stays close as long as possible. A bad sceanario for the Cubs would be if the Padres clinched prior to their season-ending series with the Brewers and rested their starters. I want them all to lose (padres included) so it stays close enough that the WC is around if we need it...And so the Padres have something to play for that last series. Amen to that - if the Padres have somehow clinched and are setting up their rotation for the playoffs that would not be good news for the Cubs.
  4. Even though we've "tipped our hand" I'm not sure how useful that information will be to anyone, and maybe Lou's deliberately putting out misinformation to confuse whoever might try to make use of the information. It's not like there'll be a Senate investigation if Lou changes his mind.
  5. I agree. I've never heard so many people unsatisfied with a 90% save percentage. Sure he has had some bad outings in non-save situations, but he's still one of the more consistent closers the Cubs have had in awhile. Anything less than 2005 Mariano Rivera is pathetic.
  6. There's a rumor going around to that effect.
  7. So the Cubs pitching staff ranks 3rd in WHIP, 3rd in OBA, 4th in SLGA and 3rd in OPSA in the NL but they are not a good pitching staff. Or, alternatively, only the Padres and Dodgers have good pitching staffs.
  8. That would be the A-Rod of AAA. Josh Kroeger, 11.03 RC/G would be the A-Rod of AA. :)
  9. He's available on The Baseball Cube and the Baseball Cube site shows up higher on Google.
  10. Being late is not a direct indicator of work ethic, not even close. In a lot of jobs, those who like to show up early and leave late are often just butt kissers trying to make a good impression who aren't actually good workers. We've got a couple. And as you said, you don't know the circumstances. So quit pretending you know where his head is. Taking less talent and more desire 10 times out of 10 is how you end up with a crappy baseball team, 10 times out of 10. Of the guys I have working for me, I'll take the guy who comes in late every time and wish I had 4 more like him. His work ethic is great, I can count on him to do good work without a lot of direction on time and if I need him to come in early he does that, too. I've got others who show up on time, but they also leave on time whether the work is done or not, and not really caring about the quality of the work they do. That showing up on time is clearly a great indicator of their work ethic. Now baseball is different because they usually start the games on time whether all the players are there or not, but to make a general statement that "being late is a direct indicator of work ethic" just doesn't resonate with my personal experience.
  11. Bo Jackson
  12. Being late constantly will get you fired at alot of work environments. Obviously this is not the first time this has happened with him. As a professional ballplayer you are expected to arrive at a certain time. Not doing so shows a bad attitude towards the team. Its really that simple. What is the defense for Eric? Its just hard for him to wake up? Insomnia? Since the game starts at a certain time, being at the park on schedule is probably an important thing. It's not like you can stay late and catch up on your work. There are plenty of lines of work Patterson could go into where punctuality doesn't matter.
  13. So ignore the numbers and just look at his relative performance compared to the rest of the PCL (as of 8-30, doesn't include last night's 3-5 HR): 2nd in AVG 3rd in OBP 1st in SLG (by 33 points) 1st in OPS (by 47 points) Assuming AAA is the training ground for MLB, being better than everybody else in the PCL is impressive regardless of how much a hitters' league it is.
  14. Thanks for the PBP Fred, some of us have to look like we're working.
  15. So with Moore and Cherry going for Trachsel does that open up a spot on the 40 man roster? Who'll fill it?
  16. Now we're going to have to keep him at Iowa so he can tie Alomar's record. :D
  17. Yeah, what the heck is up with that? Hill was used as a PH. Soto got his full 5 PA's, but moved from catcher to 1st as part of a double switch. Interestingly, the I-Cubs currently have 4 catchers on their roster - Soto, Hill, Richie and Fox.
  18. Koyie Hill cleared waivers? who'd a' thunk it?
  19. I-Cubs, C-Cubs or NL All Star?
  20. Talk about jumping the gun with Vitters. [Apologizing for the mixed metaphor] It's not like Vitters isn't providing the ammunition.
  21. Ho-hum. Is 25 a lot? I noticed he only went 1-4 and his average went down a point - from .358 to .357.
  22. Wow, it even worked for me.
  23. That may be the first and last time either Patterson got mentioned in the same breath as Pujols, Maddux and Grace.
