  1. So is my Mazda Protege5 made in Japan by a Ford owned company foreign or domestic? Made in USA by Ford or GM - definitely domestic (OK, there could be some issues with respect to imported parts, etc) Made outside USA by company not owned by Ford or GM - definitely import All else - ???
  2. One other point - San Antonio is only an hour away from Austin (well in the middle of the night anyway). If you add the 2 together they move up to #19 in the Nielsen markets.
  3. Say, Bruce, can you help some brothers and sisters out?
  4. This started out with this quote: Compare the rotations. The DR doesn't have much beyond Pedro. After Pedro, you have Daniel Cabrera, Bartolo Colon and Odalis Perez. Those guys don't even remotely compare to Zambrano, Santana and King Felix. You then replied: So the objection isn't to the award (although that's certainly its own topic for debate), but to using the award as a reason to say the DR's pitching lineup is better than Venezuela's. And given the criteria you've given for the Cy Young, I think that's a valid criticism.
  5. I think your criteria are similar to those used by most voting for the Cy Young, and that's the reason many discount the Cy Young as an award for the best pitcher. As I see it, you've established 3 criteria - pitching (ERA, K's, WHIP, etc.), wins and overall team success. Of those, only the first is mostly within the pitcher's control. Run support is a major factor in wins, and overall team success depends on the rest of the pitching staff as well as offense. Therefore, since Colon will not be bringing his run support or fellow pitchers, the Cy Young is basically irrelevant to the current discussion.
  6. Minors - and then transactions and then baseball discussions. Now in season, at work when I can't watch or listen I will try to keep up with Game Threads - but minor league game threads are the best. =D>
  7. I don't understand why you have such a problem. He's basically saying I think this guy is going to be amazing if he stays healthy. How can you have an issue with that statement? There's amazing and there's "will be remembered as one of the best pitchers in the history of the game" Clemens, Maddux, and Pedro, those are guys that will be rememberred as some of the best pitchers in the history of the game. Are you really ready to throw a guy with 3 years professional experience in that group? I'm not putting him in the group. I'm saying I don't see how you can have a problem with somebody else thinking he will one day be in that group if he doesn't get injured. Would you have had a problem with somebody who watched a little bit of Clemens as a youngster and proclaimed he would be remembered as one of the greats if he stayed healthy? Yes, because he too would've had 1 year of major league experience which isn't enough for me to start etching his HOF plaque, even with a health caveat. But to me, the point is he might be right. And how cool would it be to be able to come back to the NSBB archive and see that you predicted 20 years ago that this Clemens guy is going to be pretty special. Now if we see someone predict that about 10 different guys every year it would lose some of its impact, but if someone wants to put their credibility on the line (and in the archives) I say go for it. There's enough people around to remind us of our errors.
  8. It's easy... Haven't you seen the Zac Barker (drummer for Blink 182) commercial where he is all swole. :) Am I wrong, or isn't it Travis Barker? It is. Now that we've established his identity, what does it mean to be "all swole"? Presumably that you've gone beyond kinda swole.
  9. Nice link. Seems there is a difference in a torn and frayed labrum. Reading parts of that reminded me of my shoulder seperation, and I felt similar to how I feel when I see a bad knee injury in a game. I know - I refuse to watch any injury replays - especially knee injuries. That's one reason I don't watch nearly as much football anymore.
  10. Agreed, and now that the off-season of pessimism is over, I find myself falling into my spring training role of boundless optimism. Until reality sets in I'm convinced that all the injuries are healed, the rehabs are ahead of schedule, the kids are ready, only those players with off years last year will regress to the mean and life is glorious. I'm a few hundred miles south of Chicago and it's spring outside. I'm pretty sure I like baseball, and my role in it.
  11. That is absolutely not true. A true baseball fan can watch any teams play, and just because he/she happens to like a 2nd team does not make that person any less of a fan than anyone else. It's very plausible for people in Chicago and NY to root for both teams since they are in separate leagues. Nearly all of my friends in the NYC area root for the Mets when they're not playing the Yankees, and most of my Sox friends root for the Cubs (and a couple even go to Wrigley when the Sox are on the road). I'm not saying you have to root against the other team in your city, but actually following both seems lame to me. The biggest part of being a true baseball fan to me is the loyalty you have for your team regardless of what they do in the standings, and that that loyalty does not change depending on the season the team is having. Having a second team you can switch to if only one of the two is in contention seems like you are cheating yourself because I can't see how you could enjoy it as much. So if you are a fan of baseball as a sport, but not of any particular team, what are you? A football fan?
  12. From Southfork it's only about an hour to the Ballpark in Arlington (Ameriquest whatever to the commercial minded). You ought to grab Bobby and come check it out. It would easily break into your top 5.
  13. Absotively. I'm all for high expecations and whatnot, but let's give it a while before we judge where these guys are at mentally. Every spring you hear stories of increased focus, attention to detail, players in the best shape of their life, and it's not easy, at least for me, to buy this stuff when you've heard it all before. Was Groundhog Day that long ago? Today's a brand new day. Just because we've been burned umpteen jillion times before shouldn't impact our ability to see the clear evidence that this is the year.
  14. Nah, knowing the Cubs there will be another prospect bust to take his place long before 15 years are up. On the other hand, if he is still remembered as the great bust 15 years from now that would be good news.
  15. That's true after you get to the majors, but I suspect many a player in the minors could make more in a real job, and some for whom the probablity of getting to the majors is low probably quit because of it. You probably don't see many Stanford grads coming back to the same level in the minors for 3 years.
  16. What's that? I don't know what he meant but I read it as Any Body But Neifi.
  17. The kool-aid is flowing freely.
  18. Yeah, that's my only excuse.
  19. In Sammy's case putting his HOF eligibility back a year might not be a bad thing. I think the more time that passes before his name comes up for a vote will make it easier to concentrate on his career as a whole.
  20. Without the strawman fallacy it wouldn't take nearly as long to keep up with these forums.
  21. I'll take it further - let's also have all existing HOFers clear their name of amphetamine use. If someone came up with a test for amphetamine use that could be applied to all those uniforms, caps, etc in Cooperstown I think it would be quite revealing.
  22. Today everything is just incredibly sssllloooooowww. At least for me.

  24. As a Ranger fan, moving them out of the West would certainly increase my summer productivity - those west coast road trips really cut into my sleep.
  25. For all you Mark Cuban fans, today the Mavericks announced that because their payroll has come under control, ticket prices will be reduced next year for some seats, including some nosebleed seats as low as $2.00. Link
