  1. i really liked the part in the article by jim bowden which compared Theo Epstein to Andy MacPhail. (insert Mike Murphy sound effects)
  2. It means the Red Sox won't be getting any good players. Oh wait, it's Gammons, the last coherent thought he had was about 6 years ago. http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/petergammons_290.jpg "My sources indicate I have no idea what I am hummina hummina hummina"
  3. Yep. I was lukewarm on the Ricketts from the moment they didn't fire Hendry and shifted to completely happy with ownership when he did. Prior to that, they were saying the right things, and I liked the money being put in to Wrigley and the other facilities, but I couldn't get past the Hendry thing to all out happiness. yup. i've begun to believe that perhaps Ricketts had a plan along these lines the whole time, but, as an astute businessman (which he is, afterall), upon entering a business field he knew little more than outsider fodder about, allowed himself the time to learn the mechanics of the inside world of baseball team ownership, while being ok with taking the heat for the time being, knowing that eventually he would come out victorious (i use that term relatively, understand), also that, truly being an astute businessman one absolutely can not crumble to the constant outside pleas for change, but, on the other hand, can not ignore them altogether either, as that too is folly. the line of progression Ricketts has made/continues to make, if it is kept up, perhaps leads me to think he was a better option than the Mavericks owner whose name is honestly escaping me right now.
  4. that'd be too hilarious if CARMINE was what was the holdup in negotiations concerning who (what) from the front office he can bring along
  5. wouldn't the wanting other boston front office guys suggest perhaps he is going to be president, or has it been absolutely determined his only possible title would be general manager?
  6. yeah the a-rod signing showing up the series or whatever was a big deal at the time, i distinctly remember that, too.
  7. tweeting doesn't require editors
  8. i think kaplan was stroking hendry & company through their trouser pockets for years, and now that he isn't the go to mouth of the organization he wants to pull everyone down with him.
  9. rocking that .453 OBP in Boise. didn't know the red sox had drafted him in 08
  10. i want to take a small moment to say that nuts & gum has gone from my personal least favorite poster to one of the better ones here. i want to hate your posts, but can no longer do that. i went away for like a year and you really stepped your [expletive] up. good job.
  11. Dempster was once a 200+ inning pitcher before he was a reliever. He had maybe 1500 professional innings as a starter by the time he was Samardzija's age. It was a matter of going back to what he was. I'm not really sure there's a good comparison there, or that you can have Samardzija do what Dempster did. i was not clear; dempster had a specific offseason plan during the year before which he was planned to go back to working as a starter wherein he did certain things to plan for the workload to come. what i mean is there was a lot of planning. plans. weezing the joo-ooh-suh. reason being that perhaps dempster could share said prepatory structure with samardzija, whether samardzija has pitched a 200+ inning season or not, as surely it would be of some benefit.
  12. only if they can get hollandsworth to talk enough [expletive] about ramirez to kick his butt into gear only if they can get ramirez to take some of his ops and share it with lesser cubs
  13. http://www.missxpose.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/02/mikestrahan.jpg did you say something about filling gaps?
  14. i wish i was so in-the-know on doug melvin's thought processes as a general manager. also, why in the back? that seems silly. i'd think they'd just want to hit him somewhere on his body, rather than specifically targeting the back. i should write this major sports radio talk show host and ask if there is a more specific back target, such as left shoulderblade, or lower spinal region. can i get a link to an email?
  15. how, exactly, does one in such a position as yours (to be or not to be) cope with media outlets and their criticisms, as well as, is there a way in which one can (not manipulate, but) manipulate (per se) local media so as to garner a more unified front of one's organizational philosophies so as to educate fans and allow us to be honestly spoken to as if we aren't all dumb shits and meat heads? related ephemeral: can you get kaplan [expletive] canned?
  16. Dear prospective (or already another teams) gm, do you agree with the sentiment 'this is why we can't have nice things?'
  17. the brother of the whip my hair back and forth girl
  18. did you guys know the cubs are 1-0 without an active general manager? i don't think they should hire one until they prove they need one.
  19. Trading Zambrano sounds like a bad independent, straight to netflix (does this happen?) romance movie. Or a sweet documentary.
  20. the offensive rich harden.
  21. from the tom hanks movie. he tees up beachballs to hitters too often for my liking, though
  22. just saying, samardzija is gonna be stretched out, too. theoretically the club could put one in the pen for a few starts/ vice versa so that the roster spot isn't wasted, the cubs know what they have in samardzija, cashner is worked back into the rotation, and a tangible post-2012-contracts rotation idea is surmised
  23. sabathia garza dempster zambrano samardzija/cashner on a rotating 5th slot
  24. best nsbb thread since nomar trade. omc whoosh was just the nut all over kyle's face on top of the cake
