  1. did you have cesar freaking izturis with 25 homeruns? how?
  2. the only reason that doesn't bother me yet is that it's sullivan saying it. bruce would be another thing.
  3. is that speculation or have you heard anything relating to dunn going there?
  4. I don't think so, but looking into it brought me across this guy http://www.baseball-reference.com/g/galanau01.shtml I had never heard of him, but what a solid hitter. odd that he retired after a season with a .471 obp.
  5. so houston will probably lose clemens, pettitte(sp) is retiring maybe. i've heard, as has everyone else, that they are going to go after carlos lee. has anyone seen anything on the pitching front with the astros? there is no way st louis gets to the series again with that team. i never really got upset about them winning because it seems so impossible. but they may lose both suppan and weaver. and other than that i have heard little to nothing about who they may obtain this offseason. the brewers don't seem too primed to do anything either, though i can faintly recall them maybe going for one of the bigger named fa's. the way it's going right now, though the offseason is not over today by far, the cubs are looking real good in the central.
  6. it is possible for the cubs to now have three 40 homerun guys in the same lineup. anyone know if the cubs have ever had that happen?
  7. /cheers for the royals I'd say there's a 90% chance he never repeats what he did last year. And we're paying him money for years like last year. And we're paying him that same amount of money for 8 years. And we can't trade him. Even if we wanted to, he can stop it, even after his NTC expires. And he's essentially untradeable with his contract anyways. It's not a good deal. The only way it's justified is if he produces like this for at least some part of his contract, even though it's extremely unlikely. Is it nice to have Soriano? Sure. It's still not a good signing. well its good to know we have an insider with real information of exactly how the contract is structured.
  8. Sign Meche/Lilly. Trade Jones's contract. Sign Drew. I don't think it's that impossible. Who knows, the payroll maybe be bigger than the 115-120 that we've been hearing. if that's it the rotation is horrible at worst and very average at best, definately not a world series champion. I don't think Z, Hill, Meche, Lilly/Westbrook, Prior/Miller with Marshall and Marmol possibly in there too is a horrible pitching staff. as much as i'd like hill to succeed and think he will eventually, it's not a good idea to have him slated in the three spot after the ups and downs he's had. prior/miller can't be counted on exactly and even if you replace an injured prior/miller with marmol or marshall it's not that great. the point being, there is a not so fine line between average and great. 2003 rotation was great, 2006 rotation was below average. i really think the cubs need to sign a schmidt or trade for something close to that to ensure anything pitching wise. Or maybe we will catch a break and the real Mark Prior will show up again. that should be viewed as a very very very nice acquisition, not a given. it's been proven the last three years that we can not count on health, so the best way to go about it should be to sign another #1. if prior is healthy after that the cubs become unstoppable.

  11. Bruce Miles challenges your statement. paul sullivan challenges bruce miles "The Cubs plan to have Soriano play centerfield and bat lead-off, giving them three players who have hit 35 or more home runs in a season in their starting lineup. With Soriano in the fold, the Cubs will next turn towards acquiring a starting pitcher or two." so who is right btwn the two? sullivan is a crock of you know what.
  12. actually i read that soriano might be in right with jones moved to center and murton in left. not a bad idea if jones can handle center. Piniella just said on the radio that Hendry is now going after a CF and SP get schmidt, lugo, westbrook and call it an offseason. drew would be nice too.
  13. Edit: Says he plans to bat Soriano lead-off. anything else of interest?
  14. izturis, marshall and ohman. pleeeeeeeeeeeeease keep wuertz.
  15. it has to already be close to that, and kaplan as well as others are saying he is still not done by far... whatever that means.
  16. Yes. yes yes. trade jones, put roberts in center lugo at short. keep murton and murton alone in left.
  17. yeah, that's probably one of the more important things in this discussion.
  18. Westbrook, Igawa, Jennings. let lou figure it out.
  19. this makes me think... dusty was a laid back guy, and hendry was pretty laid back when he was manager. lou is a very agressive man, and hendry is now being super, maybe too agressive. is he really anything other than an extension of the manager, why have a gm at all?
  20. Agreed. I think we can use his power more as a middle of the order type or else our lineup gets pretty thin after ARam. If we could sign Lugo to play SS and move Izturis for peanuts I can definitely see a huge improvement in the lineup. yeah, if lou is smart enough to put someone like murton number two, soriano as a leadoff hitter(his splits there are amazing) is something the cubs can get away with.
  21. By VORP, he was the best offensive player on the Cubs last year. Add in a healthy Lee, another Aramis season, and an improved season from Murton and I think the offense will be significantly improved. replace cedeno with lugo and it looks much better
  22. is there a higher percentage of intentional walks to go along with this? if not that's a real good sign(added onto a new seemingly obp minded hitting coach)
  23. I heard the Cubs are still going to go after Pierre and get him to play second since he's so familar with the grounders that are hit in that direction. POST oF THE MONTH!!!
