How can you say mometum is what caused all that? Teams get hot, pitchers get hot, how can you say that its caused by momentum? Being hot, is because the team did their job, its not about momentum. Like you said its all about that next days starter. I'm not saying it caused it. Obviously momentum isn't real. IMO, its a emotion. You have a good play or two - now you start to get excited, you start to believe more, the crowd gets excited, the other team gets rattled, etc. There is no such thing as momentum but IMO opinion it describes a mindset change for the players involved - on both sides. Certainly you believe in crowd noise helping right? That is part of momentum. And it can be shut down very quickly. Like a 3 run homer when you are down 4 in the 9th. No I dont believe crowd noise helps really. Does it probably keep the team more alive, yea, but does it help them get a hit? Throw a strike? Probably not. Ive seen Wrigley loud as hell, only to watch a ball 4 go by and us walk in a run, or us strike out with a runner on 3rd.

I think the bigger question is why do you think it does for basketball and not for baseball? That makes no sense? Because baseball is a series of separate events. Basketball is a continuous game. Thank you, Im really glad to see Im not alone in my thinking with this.

Explain how it does in baseball? Its more about who you are playing. The Brewers limped into this series with the Cardinals after 2 devastating defeats. They seem to not be having a problem after that, why? Because the Cards pitching staff is terrible and they are a AAA offense, it has nothing to do with momentum.

Sure it is. How? Its more the fact the Brewers are facing a piss poor pitching staff with tons of injuries to their lineup. They limped in playing them, if momentum was real in baseball, the Cards would be winning these games. I'm not arguing that it carries over day to day, but to say that it doesn't exist is just flat out not true. Momentum is absolutely a part of baseball. I started a thread in baseball discussions about this. Im interested to see other peoples takes.

It's still a poor decision that might have overcome a lackluster effort from the offense. I say the Cubs gave a poor effort: I get called out. Raisin says it: He's right! You called it a poor effort in the second inning. I said the offense's results were lackluster today after the game. We basically lost to 2 bloop singles. True. But still. I guess I have to be drinking the Kool-Aid now, because there's NO WAY IN HELL we lose this division. Just like there was NO WAY IN HELL we lose in 84 or 2003. There is no denying that this win gives the Brewers momentum. Why all the bashing? He's got a right to be concerned. Momentum is the most overrated and ignorant thing in baseball. What happened to the momentum they lost against Atl? Or our momentum? Momentum isnt a part of baseball.

No, I'm just trying to stifle the sentiment that Lou cost us the game. It wasn't a smart move, but the team's piss poor performance for 8.2 innings back him into a corner. Agreed

It's still a poor decision that might have overcome a lackluster effort from the offense. Murton was part of the problem for the first eight innings, not the answer. There was no hot hand for Lou to play, so he took the option that hadn't already come up empty three times tonight. It wasn't the best idea, but trying to manage this team into runs tonight had to feel like bobbing for apples in a tub full of feces. Thats ridiculous thinking. Murton was 0-3 that happens quite a bit in baseball. To think Floyd can come in off the bench against a lefty gives you a better chance than Murton because hes 0-3 tonight is irrational. It's no more irrational than blaming tonight's loss on a single decision by Lou. Blame it on a bad strike zone by an umpire which robbed us of 2 potential baserunners, blame it on all those bullcrap bloop hits in the second inning, blame it on Lilly getting hammered by Hermeda, blame it on the field being in poor condition after being rained on all day, blame the offense that couldn't handle a 1.6 WHIP from the opposing pitcher and insisted on GIDP immediately after their only two walks of the first eight innings. Lou's decision in the ninth was at most 3 percent accountable for this loss. Ok I didnt realize thats what this discussion was about sorry. In no way was I trying to say that was the reason we lost this game. It was a small factor along with alot of other things.

Did anyone really expect us to win the final 6? I never once expected us to win the final 6. I was by far not the only one complaining. And did I have anything to be happy about the first 8 innings. Gonna let a junk inning beat you from a team that's 11 games under .500 at home? Then you deserve to schedule a vacation in October instead of play baseball. I just worry about Marquis and Trax the rest of the series. BTW - Dunn is done for the year. So we'll face Cincy without Griffrey and Dunn. Not a given Trax is goin on Thurs, and its not like Florida is throing Cy Young the next 2 nights In all fairness, it's not like their starter tonight had any business giving up two hits thru 8 innings either. Dontrelle is talented and has proven that in his career. Its not far fetched at all for Dontrelle to throw a 2 hitter. These next 2 guys it would be amazing for them to do it.
