  1. I still believe in this team. Any one of us at the beginning of the season offered this record at this point in the season would take it. I still hold that Cubs teams playing more day games is the problem. build in rest. Give guys extended time off. Bring up Birdsell and Alcantra. Six man rotation for awhile. Rest Horton and Boyd. Rest Swanson, Happ, Zuki and Tuck. Let the gingers burn under the hot sun. Let the kids play until the old men are rested up. It may be fake IL time.
  2. Send down PCA and call them both up. (only MOSTLY kidding)
  3. Hate to police grammar, but……This is a time when then/than makes a big difference.
  4. After going through the doom and gloom of a failed trade deadline and losing 2 of 3 to the reds, I have re-calibrated. I feel good about this team, this stretch and specifically this match-up. Cubs play STL, Tor, Pit, while the Brewers play NYM, Pit, and the indefatigable Cin. Brewers get Skenes, cubs maybe not. Then head to head. Horton is a game 3 playoff starter who needs some rest. Byrd is an ace who needs a rest. Taillon and Assad coming back soon. Birdsell is knocking on the door. Cubs run differential may be worse than the Brewers, but neither team's recent runs will persist. Tucker and Suzuki have to start hitting. PCA will adjust. Happ showing signs of life. Solid lineup top to bottom against both handed pitching. And if things keep going as awful as they have, the Cubs are still a top 5 team in baseball. Certainly good enough to get hot and win it all.
  5. Not better. Just slightly less bad.
  6. Lots of randoms making noise on X about Gore to cubs
  7. So wait, we need to put the brakes on this rumor?
  8. No Cubs fan has any business being this optimistic. Time to lower your Xanax dosage.
  9. Not a HOF name. A BobsonDugnutt SNES name.
  10. The difference between a top 50 prospect and a prospect outside the top 100. Jed knows what their return will be if they wait until next year, and that he has to beat it. They want him to beat it by a lot, he wants to beat it by as little as possible.
  11. Ok, so maybe we aren't saying the same thing. I think Soroka is in the rotation for the foreseeable future. Even if there is a TOR starter added. Rotation becomes Shota, Boyd, TOR, Soroka, Rea. (Horton gets a rest) Then its Shota, Boyd, TOR, Taillon, Soroka (Horton builds back up) Then it's Shota, TOR, Taillon, Horton, Soroka (Boyd gets innings limited. Assad to bullpen) If there is no TOR guy added today, that puts Rea back in and delays hortons rest until Taillon and/or Assad return.
  12. Aha. What I was calling the Brown spot, you were calling the Flexen spot. (I never mentally had Flexen in the rotation)
  13. Who bumps Brown? Unless and until they acquire a TOR starter the rotation is Boyd, Shota, Horton, Rea, Soroka.
  14. yup. perfect stabilizing option that makes us look a lot less desperate. A playoff rotation of Shota, Boyd, Taillon, Horton is not the end of the world. Soroka is a nice 4th once Taillon comes back and a nice 5th once Horton comes back from the rest/benching he gets once Taillon comes back. Now get a number 2 and make that last paragraph obsolete.
  15. I like this trade. I also believe this is just the start.
  16. Why not put our CF Albino Soriano in the leadoff spot.
  17. I thought you were talking about Hoyer there for a minute.
  18. Someone on this board recently noted something like: "No top 100 player has been traded for a rental position player in the last 4 years" While that *could* change this year, it wont change enough that two top 100 players will be traded for a 33 year old rental having a career year on pace for 5 WAR.
  19. You can’t script this high drama. Two best records in baseball (Toronto doesn’t exist), tied for first in the division heading into the trade deadline at a park the visiting team’s fans call Wrigley North. This is perfect and beautiful.
  20. Call it 7 different players, because Taillon is a big part of the reason they are on a 94 win pace. But your point stands.
  21. Agreed. We get 3 from this list Starting pitcher that pitches in a playoff series and makes sure we don't see Ben Brown until next year. Starting pitcher that barely bumps Rea or rests Horton when Taillon comes back. Closer middle inning reliever First division infield bat. You get three. If everything goes well.
