What if you actually did pay for past performance? I was talking to family about the wisdom of trading Baez Bryant Rizzo et. al. I pushed that it is not smart to pay for past performance and that Bryant is likely to make us drool for the the first 3-5 years of his next contract but he will be an albatross for the last 3-5 years if it. The conclusion, just because it’s smart doesn’t mean that it’s not stupid that this is the best way. Baseball needs lifelong team players and needs to change their system so that it’s good business to keep players around. What if revenue sharing wasn’t shared with small market teams? What if it was put in a trust/endowment and was used for two thing: 1) to pay players for past performance. Literally. You hit certain benchmarks and get bonuses from this pool. 2) to help teams keep their own players. Adds 5% to your bid when bidding on your own players in free agency or extending them, 10% if they made their debut with you, 15% if you drafted them and they made their debut with you. This gives small market teams a competitive edge in resigning their own players. Obviously there are more nuances to be considered and these percentages may be way off. Players still have choice but teams can better develop their brand. If the game is “regional” then this should increase fan buy in. Who hates this more, players or owners?

The betting market isn’t even offering him at 250:1 to win, so I don’t think he’s a realistic candidate. Max Scherzer is -260 Forgot about Scherzer, he’s a shoo-in. I don’t think Wainright wins but he would be “a” front runner I’d imagine, along with Max, Walker and Julio. Dodger rotation as usual is pretty filthy. Regardless, your point stands. He's old and dumb and it's stupid that he isn't broken.

It's interesting, but speculating about prospects future value while comparing it to guys who have actually played well in the ML is questionable. But that’s exactly what GMs have to do when making trades. Years of control x cost efficient x floor/ceiling vs reasonable expectation of somewhat predictable production x less years of control.

Some of what I do involves promoting Christian concerts. I’ve asked some of those people about it as a Cubs fan and they know nothing of her. She is non-existent in those circles. She is only Instagram famous.

Is this because he got booed mercilessly as he was announcing every draft pick the day before? I guess the message was received? Is there a pro sports commissioner that doesn’t get booed at every draft? I mean, Roger Goodell deserves it but they even booed David Stern. Definitely joking. He obviously didn’t make a decision in 36 hours because he felt like people didn’t like him.

I haven't watched any games yet, but if that's where the booth is headed in relation to any advanced analytics, you can count me out. If I want to hear how great batting average, rbis and pitcher record is I can find plenty in the cesspool that is Facebook and reddit. Nerd
