  1. Remember Assad is there too. Last pitched the 4th.
  2. Or just maybe don’t use him three days in a row. I really don’t think he’s lost it as much as he’s overused. He missed a whole month with injury and already has 41 appearances.
  3. Why not see what Braxton has here instead of abusing Theilbar and Thornton.
  4. Oh I’m agreeing with you. It’s obscene.
  5. Traded a potential all star DH for potential all star closer.
  6. Reas FIP 4.78 Assad's FIP 4.86 Gausman's 3.50 Holmes 3.21 I think all of the following things: 1. that Rea and Assad's numbers are not as good as you think since July 1 (especially Rea), 2. that Rea and Assad's numbers are not sustainable, 3. Holmes and Gausman in front of this defense will blow your mind.
  7. Cubs IL pitching staff. Steele Horton Cabrera Brown Shelby Miller Daniel Palencia Hunter Harvey Hobie Milner Phil Maton Ethan Roberts Porter Hodge Gavin Hollowell Riley Martin
  8. If you throw out May June and July....ah never mind. Glad he's hitting now.
  9. First free base by a Cubs hitter. No walks. They came out swinging today.
  10. I really hope Shota is limited to seeing a lineup twice in the playoffs. Follow him with Rea in the 5th if you have to.
  11. PCA Just matched Ohtani's OPS. There's nothing left for an excuse to vote for anyone but Pete.
  12. Assad (and Kelly) first to rest 5 days, and pitch 2 innings, then he comes back up. That's when you lose Ferguson. Assad pitches once out of the bullpen then back down when Cabrera is healthy. Thornton keeps his spot until one of the receivers comes off the IL (Brown, Palencia, Milner or Hollowell). If two come back, Assad's yo-yo string is cut early.
  13. How does Joe Morgan expect to vote from the grave?
  14. Add: Zeferjahn threw 31 pitches on Sunday for the Angels. Idiots. ETA: Idiots here are the Angels, not the wonderful people who bring us the bullpen usage chart.
  15. your persistence in keeping Assad in the bullpen usage chart may soon come to fruition.
  16. I think you're right on Rea. Counting on two of Steele, Holmes, and Brown seems optimistic. I don't trust 38 year old Matthew Boyd (his age in the final year of your 2-3 year deal).
  17. Is there a site where you can sort a pitchers whip by the ops of opposing hitters? I feel like certain hitters and pitchers feast off of weak opponents and wilt against elite competition. I mean everyone is vulnerable to elite opponents, but I wish there was a way to quantify how much so. i feel like the result may show evidence for why your final sentence above makes sense.
  18. So what does a (reasonably) healthy pitching staff look like? Gausman Boyd Imanaga Holmes (IL) Cabrera (IL) Palencia (IL) Zeferjahn Steele (IL) Theilbar Rea Assad? (replaces anyone still on the IL) Milner (IL) Peterson Brown (IL) So what happens to (Civale, Thornton, Rolison, Ferguson, Hollowell (IL), Webb, Maton (IL)) as the guys 5 guys on IL come back?
  19. pitched, DFA'd, resigned to minor league contract then called up. ETA: last pitched in the majors July 10, the only game he's pitched for the Cubs.
