  1. I could actually get WGN radio for night games in North Dakota. It was nice for the longer road games.
  2. That doesn't preclude me from being right. Without the Williston Herald's editing staff backing me up, this is what happens.
  3. Starting on a Friday and ending on a Wednesday? Am I crazy or is that weird (or both)?
  4. I'm dead right. When they get a coherent PBP blatant fanservice color guy who is aware of the outside world, you'll realize how awesome Hughes really is and thank me. They can pipe in Ron saying "YESSSS!" or "Oh no!" a few times a year when appropriate. edited to fix glaring error
  5. It's hard to bring the feel of the game when you've spaced out for a few at-bats and your formerly awesome PbP guy has decided that riffing off you is better than calling the game. give me a break. there was never a time when i was seriously lost as to what was going on with the game for "a few at-bats." people have said that about santo quite a bit and it's ridiculous. if pat and ron's "riffing" seriously caused you to lose track as to what was going on with the game, you're not very bright or you're old. Listen moar.
  6. It's hard to bring the feel of the game when you've spaced out for a few at-bats and your formerly awesome PbP guy has decided that riffing off you is better than calling the game.
  7. That infield was *set* for a decade, at least.
  8. It'd go a lot faster but both guys keep trying to bunt for it.
  9. It's about as realistic as the last dozen time fans saw a bunch of money coming off in the same year and fantasized that it'd all be spent on one big player. So, no.
  10. What stat do you prefer? One that doesn't cover-up Colvin's biggest offensive weakness, exaggerate his biggest strength, and do the reverse for Fukudome.
  11. The Daily Herald ran the same picture with their story. To be fair, it was an error by the photographer and stayed with the photo. Still, it should have been caught by someone by both papers. I can't imagine what process would be in place that would allow a paper to catch this.
  12. "Are you sure that's Garza?" "Well, he looks Hispanic and he's got hair on his chin, so we're going to go with it." "Good enough for me. Let's run it." Meanwhile, a newspaper exec notices that there are two people working on the same section and realizes one can be laid off and improve his bonus.
  13. He didn't take it. I gave it to him! I'm going to rip you *so* hard in a column.
  14. You're right. I was just glancing at his AA numbers. I'm sure you guys know this better than me, I just glanced at his results and didn't see anything that screamed "No. 1 prospect in No. 8 system"
  15. 8th ranked system in baseball BA is gospel now that they've said something good about the Cubs. I grant that I'm not that up on the minor leagues, but your No. 1 prospect is a guy who isn't striking out at a K/inning pace, your No. 10 prospect is a Guy(er) who just had his first really good season as a 24-year-old at AA. I find the 8th place in baseball thing skepticism-inducing.
  16. That says a lot about how picked clean the system was after all the good ones got called up.
  17. I guess not. We're all on the same page, hooray!
  18. I'm not saying I want a one-man booth. I'm just saying it should go back to being a baseball broadcasting team and not the "Pat and X Show" schtick. Hughes was great at making the best of a bad situation with Santo, but that doesn't mean we should be looking for another incoherent ex-Cub for Hughes to riff off of.
  19. Stone became insufferable when a bunch of dumb fans fell in love with him because he could make such basic observations as throwing breaking balls low and away when ahead in the count. I don't know if it's the fans faults or his, but it has nothing to do with 2004.
  20. Hughes a freaking fantastic straight PBP guy. He got stuck doing the "play off Ron" shtick because Santo was so awful 99% of the time that it was the only way to make it entertaining. I really hope they just get a simple color guy and let Hughes go back to being an actual play-by-play guy, a job at which he is fantastic.
  21. I was going to say I loved him for his clutch, extra-innings triple in the 2003 NLCS, but B-R says that was Glanville. How many bad CFs did that team have?
  22. Ideally, the leadoff hitter not only singles, but he does so with a bunt, infield single or an opposite-field soft liner. Nothing too hard.
  23. Was it "I think a breaking ball low and away will do him in right here."? Make that man the GENERAL MANAGER RIGHT NOW!
  24. Uhhhhhh get out of here with that ERA crap you saber nerd Zambrano doesn't win games. You know a championship ballplayer when you see him, and Zambrano isn't it.
