  1. If the loan is such a guaranteed money-maker for the city, why do the Cubs need to go through the city to get the loan for the money they need?
  2. Stewart's career progression: Okay ish Bad last year Hoy-stein think they see something in his swing they can fix to make him an above-average offensive player, and they are right. This year, he's been hitting the ball very well and getting BABIPed.
  3. What's even more impressive is the number of people that are normally at odds with each other making legitimate (re. sane) arguments that Neely is completely ignoring/not buying. When Mojo and Kyle are on the same side of the argument, there is something seriously amiss in the Force. We agree on almost everything.
  4. If anything, I think Stewart's peripherals could support numbers quite a bit better than even his May numbers. His K rate is down to 18.8% this year, and but he hasn't sacrificed his power to get it. The Cubs seem to have been right when they said they thought they could fix a problem with his swing. With that K rate and his other peripherals, I think a line of .260/350/450 is completely, legitimately possible in the long run. Especially the longer he gets away from last year's wrist injury.
  5. Aren't they about due to downgrade to Cobs?
  6. Baseball is stupid and I never liked this stupid team anyway. I miss last Monday.
  7. That doesn't refute the idea that the Cubs weren't trying to sign them. You can certainly argue that we don't know for certain either way, but I don't think it's somehow been refuted that they didn't really try.
  8. Clearly, you know this. That's why they bid on Darvish. That's why they reportedly made offers to both Pujols and Fielder (both of whom they were, unsurprisingly, outbid on because AL teams have more leeway to go nuts on guys like that). But, since it didn't happen, that was never in the plans. There were reports that they didn't make serious bids on either of those players. Interesting that you choose to take one set of reports as gospel and completely ignore the others.
  9. 3 of the 4 losses on this losing streak have been by 1 run. ugh Overall, exactly half of our losses this year have been by 2 runs or less (12 out of 24 losses) It sucks but the competitive games makes me think that with some moves they have a shot at being good next year. There's a lot of pieces we've discovered this season. Samardzija, LaHair and Stewart all look like they could be legitimate contributors going forward. I definitely think they can be a very good team very quickly, if they want to be.
  10. he can pull a pettite and attempt a comeback when the cubs look good next year I'd be good with that. If he's 39 years old, hasn't pitched in five years, and wants to be added to the World Series roster during Soler's MVP season, I'm okay with that.
  11. It's posted in the Wood thread in Cubs Discussions. http://www.desipio.com also has it posted on their front page. Look at how freaking packed and awesome Wrigley Field was. I want that again soon.
  12. Remember earlier this week when we were going to beat the Cardinals and only be 4 games under and 4 games back? Good times.
  13. As long as he was on the team, there was still hope that 16-year-old me was right when he was absolutely sure that Wood would be a member of the next Cubs World Series team. I remember in spring of 1998 when an opposing coach, after Wood was sent down, said "If they have five guys better than him, they're going to the World Series." I remember checking the Chicago Tribune's agate page for the one time a week they ran minor-league numbers to see how he was doing at Iowa. I remember how excited I was when he was finally called up. I remember being in the school's computer lab during 7th period and checking the score during one of his early starts, only to see an insane line score that didn't seem possible. I sprinted home after school in time to see the 9th inning and Ks 19 and 20. Thanks for the memories, Kerry Wood.
  14. That may be his OBP right now, but he's not a .360 OBP player.
  15. The comp nerd in me keeps thinking "Joey Votto."
  16. This bullpen was dying for someone with 4.4 BB/9 in his minor league career.
  17. I'm not *that* unhappy about the bunts. I could do without them, but in a low-offense environment? It's pretty close to a wash.
  18. It's not Dolis' fault he keeps being put in these situations, but he's really not good enough to be a high-leverage reliever.
  19. I was honestly willing to be that wouldn't happen this year.
