  1. Update: It appears I was incorrect. On the bright side, I've changed my mind half a dozen times in that same span.
  2. This. The only people who know the non-winning Darvish bids are the GMs and some MLB official. If the MLB official wasn't the source of any leaks, then whoever it was had no incentive to tell the truth.
  3. I'm not entirely sure how a leaked trade that doesn't go through is supposed to make our front office look bad. The fact that nobody else traded for Haren and he's now a free agent should speak volumes.
  4. It takes awhile before the cool kids come on board. It's like when I was all "He's an idiot who is ruining our pitchers" and everyone was like "SHUT UP, IN DUSTY WE TRUSTY!" But they came around.
  5. Yeah. If Santana could be traded at essentially the same price, but Haren couldn't, I think we can safely assume there was something wrong with Haren.
  6. That's the only logical assumption to be made. The alternative is that in a pitching-desperate league, two cost-controlled years of an above-average starter didn't attract serious trade interest. We apparently have differing definitions of "logical" Well, yes. Yours seems to be that we know our front office didn't make a mistake because our front office thought it was the right thing to do.

  8. Yeah, they totally didn't trade Garza because it didn't have anything to do with the a season ending injury or anything. It was foolish and risky not to trade Garza in the spring, when his value was at its logical peak. But that's a whole other story for a whole other thread.
  9. Or that the Angels have picked up his option and are continuing to negotiate with various interested teams.
  10. Yeah. As much as I'd love an excuse to pile on to the front office, this stuff isn't on them.
  11. I'm definitely not saying that. I'm sure there was a very good reason. I was just disputing that a likely explanation is that there was never a trade and that Marmol was just confused and caused all of the reporting.
  12. I don't see why any of that is true. Teams pull out of trades when an agreement can't be reached literally the vast majority of the time. This leaked because Marmol was asked if he'd waive his NTC and then blabbed to the media about it. That doesn't mean anything was agreed on or done. Except a lot of people with reasonably good track records were saying it was done in principle even beyond that.
  13. Well, the Angels could just pick up the option and assume they can trade him some later point in the offseason.
  14. I called this several pages ago. Now we'll send a lesser reliever to the Angels for someone even better and then still flip Marmol for decent value.
  15. The only thing that would make sense to me is Haren's medicals had something they didn't like. That, or they realized how dangerously close they were to accidentally putting a good team together that didn't involve all homegrown players.
  16. Not until every possible chance that he could be a starter is exhausted. The Cubs are only interested in moving pitchers from relief to starting, not the other way around.
  17. ABTY at PSD said he heard from multiple people that it's done and waiting on MLB approval since money changes hands.
  18. This will turn out just like the Dempster situation. It'll fall apart, then we'll trade Russell to the Angels for someone even better and still trade Marmol for someone pretty good.
  19. Haren is due $6 million more, but we don't know yet how the financials in the trade work out.
  20. I've liked a ton of Theo moves. Most of my complaints have been that moves like this show what our FO is capable of if they were choosing to focus more resources on the present.
  21. The only negative thing I can possibly say is that this just makes it even more imperative that they add a guy or two to stabilize the bullpen. Otherwise, it's awesome.
