  1. All of the Cubs' most patient hitters have caught some sort of swinging-at-ball-in-the-dirt disease today.
  2. Even I don't get this POV. Marmol is a terrible relief pitcher. This is a one-run game late. Don't use terrible relievers in one-run situations. It was a bad call despite working.
  3. The baseball variance gods absolutely owe us a ninth-inning comeback here. If not, they're a bunch of jerks.
  4. Hey look, it's that guy who moved to Australia and stopped posting anything interesting in favor of the occasional asinine potshot.
  5. So we've outscored the Mets 13-9 in this series and are facing 1-2. Because Cubs.
  6. He's owed one with the way he's hit the ball today.
  7. Just bad luck. His HR/FB% that inning was unsustainably bad.
  8. Most Cubs fans still think this team is hopelessly awful and doomed to lose 100 games again. i have today's tickets sitting in the arm rest of my car...but i couldn't get anybody to go... half my friends are golfing and the others are at arlington Can't go to a game by yourself?
  9. I dedicate that strikeout, as with Rizzo's earlier in the game, to every fan who ever obsessed over runners on third with less than two outs.
  10. With a Sosa hop. That's what totally made it for me.
  11. Most Cubs fans still think this team is hopelessly awful and doomed to lose 100 games again.
  12. Going into today, Cubs pitchers had a .185 wOBA, fifth in the NL. However, we have a +0.2 baserunning score for our pitchers, the only team with a positive baserunning total.
  13. Wood celebrates his home run by issuing a lead-off walk to the pitcher.
  14. Travis Wood has a net WPA for the game of +0.465 through five innings.
  15. Retaliation for spilling some on her as he went for the ball.
  16. Using ERA as the pitcher's tell all stat that it one was, no, Travis Wood is not a sub 2.00 pitcher. Still, there's more than luck to it. Luck doesn't take 4 middling at best pitchers and transform them into studs. I expect that once the smoke clears, Travis Wood will be the type of pitcher that your average big league team would love as their 3 starter. I'm not going into the "No. X starter" stuff. Wood is an average-ish starting pitcher, and I love that about him. But he's been insanely lucky, including today when he's not pitched particularly well (something J.D. mentioned as well) but has gotten away with it. I do love that he adds a little value with his bat.
  17. That was off the plate and he didn't swing. Freaking umps.
  18. We're more than a quarter of the way through the season and Wood has a 1.88 ERA with a 4.46 xFIP.
  19. Valbuena and Schierholtz are going a long way toward restoring my faith in this front office's ability to find good value in cheap position players.
  20. I find that to be very perplexing. I hope it's just that he's not being challenged and putting a lot of balls in play.
  21. My annoyance at the umpire for blowing the call is eclipsing my annoyance at Sweeney or Bell for taking the risk to begin with. Don't risk baserunners with no outs.
