  1. None of our top prospects are anywhere near close enough to make anyone else redundant. Especially not on the infield, where there's a lot of movement yet to be made in their positions.
  2. Opinions change with new information. Well, I bet no one ever accused you of being capricious. Not at first, but sometimes they change their minds.
  3. Garza trade saga is now roughly 3-4 times as long as the Brian Roberts one. I don't care if we trade him to get Tony Campana back; I just want it overwith.
  4. I have no idea how long it'd take to convert him, but if it was longer than half a season in the minors, I'd be surprised. What I meant was that it's not even his target destination necessarily. He's still trying to stick at SS, and the regime has said they see him as a 2b as much as a 3b. I don't see how you can pass on other 3b prospects because of a guy for whom 3b may not even be in his top two most likely positions.
  5. Even if you are that big of a believer in Baez, he is not at this point a 3b.
  6. People keep saying this, but essentially everything we do is heavily leaked in advance. I know, I know, it's always the other people doing the leaking. But it's not as if it's impossible to get good rumors on what is happening with the Cubs.
  7. For a first rehab start, not leaving with a setback is a success. Stuff can come later.
  8. Because it's just not what the organization is looking to do at this time. That's not a reason, that's a tautology.
  9. I don't see what's so impossible about us looking to save cash in a Garza deal. Teams say one thing to the press and another to other teams in trade talks all the time, and we've saved money in a couple of trades already (and thus implicitly accepted a lesser return).
  10. Do we have another AWOL Iowan? http://blogs.desmoinesregister.com/dmr/index.php/2013/07/12/where-is-iowa-cubs-outfielder-brett-jackson
  11. Watkins, get a 3B and move Valbuena there, there's options if Barney isn't capable offensively at 2B until Alcantara is hopefully ready. Watkins has a .757 OPS and a 21.4% K-rate in the PCL. There's no way he gets an MLB job next year unless he suddenly shows a lot more offensive talent than he has to date.
  12. I love how an eephus gets a nasty factor of 51.
  13. So is this to assume the strategy is they go all out this year, incur penalties for next year and play within those boundaries, then go all out the year after and then rinse and repeat? The penalties are being increased pretty heavily after this year, it looks like. I'm guessing this is our only all-out year.
  14. Historically the FSL is a bigger pitcher's league: http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/minors/season-preview/2013/2614870.html Also, the link indicates Tennessee is home to the most hitter friendly stadium (admittedly in a pitcher-friendly league). The FSL has a higher OPS this year. I couldn't believe how low the SL average was.
  15. We'll see what Soler does in August and in the fall league. Right now, I still say no. I'm not saying there isn't a good argument for Alcantara moving up the prospect lists, but when your "what have you done for me lately" comes while a guy is recovering from a freak injury, that's a little rough. There's just this moment when you realize Alcantara has a better slash line, at a higher level, in a better pitcher's league, while playing a more difficult position, while being half a year younger.
  16. Is Soler a better prospect than Alcantara? Defend your answer.
  17. I'd do Garza for Porcello straight-up in a heartbeat. Not sure Detroit would.
  18. His numbers look doubly crazy when you see how bad the Southern League is at offense.
  19. 2016 would be a bit late, but 2014 is super optimistic. Not impossible, but it would require him absolutely nuts mashing every level.
  20. Baez is 0-19 since homering in his first AA at bat.
  21. If we did that, we'd have to pay for it all upfront rather than with the ad revenue it will generate.
  22. So much for Samardzija. This begins the death spiral for him.
