  1. I hated that trade so much. A future .400 OBP middle infielder for a 25-year-old with a sub-.800 OPS?
  2. I'm going to punch Jim Bowden in the kidneys.
  3. Don't talk baseball with people you know. It's just not worth it, ever.
  4. Dang, I wasn't covering that game.
  5. Beginning with the 2011 IFA/draft, we've diverted almost every possible resource toward the acquisition of prospects. And now we have a ton of prospects. It's a good start, but I'm not lining up for an isosceles lock with Jed and Theo just yet.
  6. Bravo bhogg! Most of the posters here have no clue who those guys were but you forgot a couple more busts.. Eric Duncan and David Parrish should slot right between Taylor and Kevin "no" Maas. I still want D'Angelo Jimenez and Jackson Melian.
  7. With Price, you are paying an insane prospect price just for the right to pay him $20m a year or whatever. You pay full price for him twice. Throw in the fact that he's recently had arm problems and is in the second half of his prime, and I just want nothing to do with that.
  8. I don't remember if they said it explicitly or just through rumors. I really like him in the Hairston role next year (OF bench bat with emergency potential in the IF). And that saves us a couple of million to put toward other needs.
  9. It's possible, but I don't think you can count on it. A "David Price-type" trade basically just means Price (don't want) or Stanton.
  10. That's what happens when you dump a bunch of polished college draftees on a league for 19-year-olds.
  11. Does it have to be a decent one? I think it has a chance to be. I was banging the drum pretty hard in May and June that the 2014 pitching needed to be addressed at the deadline and in the offseason, and they've begun to do that. They haven't added any impact pieces, but we desperately needed MLB-quality, replacement-level-or-slightly-better pitching to fill out some holes. If we were filling out a pitching staff for 2014 right now, we'd have something like: Samardzija/Jackson/Wood/Villanueva/Arrieta Russell/Strop/Hendricks/Vizcaino/Hendricks/Cabrera (and apparently maybe Neil Ramirez?) You could rearrange them or argue for a different usage pattern, but that's the basic state of the union. It's not good, but for heading into an offseason, it's not terrible. I know I've seen some people theorize that we will be buying 2 or 3 $6m pitchers to put in the rotation and then flip every year between now and eternity, but my guess is that we do let Grimm/Arrieta/Vizcaino/Hendricks/Villanueva/Cabrera fight it out for the fifth spot in the rotation and only add one starting pitcher in the offseason and a couple of relievers. The result would be a high-upside adequate pitching staff, a bit worse in the rotation than this year's but better in the bullpen, with the bulk of our offseason cash being able to be focused on offensive upgrades. I have trouble seeing us become some sort of amazing world-beating team, but I think the path to an 84-win projection without needing to go crazy on free agents is there for the taking if we've scouted these pitchers well and get something out of most of them.
  12. My first thought is to put Edwards at No. 6. Olt not in top 10. This just got me excited. If Olt is not even in our top 10.....this farm system is real nice right now. It is. Also Olt is awful.
  13. The PTBNL news is really nice. This is a really good return for Garza, all told.
  14. So the PTBNL is related to how well TEX does this season and not on whether they can sign Garza? Don't think there have been any confirmed reports on what the PTBNL hinges on. PSD guy said that at first, but backed off, saying he's got multiple sources telling him different things.
  15. Front office is doing a *really* nice job of accumulating interesting MLB arms (in the sense that they can be at least replacement level) for next year. Makes things look a lot less dire and seems to indicate they want to give themselves a chance in 2014.
  16. But the Ks are still there. He's back to being 2012 Brett Jackson instead of being 2013 Brett Jackson. meh, I don't care about ks or batting average. You should care about Ks for prospects.
  17. But the Ks are still there. He's back to being 2012 Brett Jackson instead of being 2013 Brett Jackson.
  18. Yes. I love him. The deal should be listed as: Edwards, Grimm, Olt, PTBNL.
  19. Which says more bad things about BA than it does good things about Olt, imo.
  20. Rangers fans are under the same delusion wrt Olt that many Cubs fans were about Brett Jackson last year.
