    Either this is overkill, or the Cubs aren't as sold on the Cabrera/Grimm/Rosscup/Ramirez/whomever else tier of guys that would seem to need jobs in the pen.

    I have to think the Garza deal illustrates that even in poor circumstances it's hard to lose TOO much value. That said, it's only logical that his high value is right now, and personally I'd rather not deal with rumor Garzapocolypse again, so trading him ASAP would be more than okay with me. Does it? Feels like we lost a ton of value in the Garza situation. The 2013 version of CJ Edwards would have been like the third piece in the Garza deals we were talking about pre-2012.

    The odds of not getting 20 million for him next season are pretty slim, so why not keep him for another year? This isn't their only chance to post him. But that's always been the case. If they just wanted one more year before cashing in, they wouldn't have decided to post him this year before the rule was changed. Unless they think this is going to result in more money next year, it doesn't make much sense for them. There's presumably some dollar value for them where the value of cashing in immediately and taking no risk outweighs the value to keeping him for another year. It's possible that value is somewhere between the expected posting fee under the old system and $20m.

    He's been a professional pitcher for six seasons, and IIRC he hasn't had a healthy season since the first one (when he threw 44 innings in rookie ball). He's 23 years old, has only thrown 100 innings once, and hasn't thrown in a game in more than two years. Even if he could make it through 50 innings without his arm falling off, I think the ship has sailed on building the arm strength to handle a full season of starting.

    Not that I expected the Cubs to be players for Granderson, but jesus christ do our present OF options look bleak. OFers presently on the 40 man: Bogusevic, Sweeney, Jackson, Soler, Lake, Schierholtz and Szczur. Barring a move, what is our opening day OF? Sweeney/Lake/Schierholtz? Don't forget Vitters.
