  1. I mean, human being and all that blah. But man, could this division be more served up to the Cardinals?
  2. "I didn't use the word 'rebuilding' and I wouldn't. That's a buzzword in baseball that leads people down the wrong path." - Theo Epstein, Oct. 25, 2011
  3. It's over. He's in. He's our starting 3b.
  4. http://m.mlb.com/video/topic/6479266/v31593231/chccol-baezs-solo-homer-trims-the-deficit-to-two ahahahaha "that was really, really far" Baez now with an all-around absurd .316/.316/.789/1.105 line this spring. I'd like to see a walk or something though. This. It's hard to imagine Baez having a higher offensive upside than Alfonso Soriano until he begins showing more patience. No doubt the power/slg will be there, but he will probably never become a pretty good obp guy. He'll hit a lot of homers, strike out a lot, and probably get out frequently. Alfonso Soriano who can play SS. Yes, please.
  5. We go 78-84, pick 11th, and use our non-protected pick as an excuse to sign absolutely no one next year and enter with a rotation of Wood/Jackson/Hammel/Hendricks/somerandocheapguy
  6. Unless his shoulder breaks in the next few weeks, he's made the team and is our starting 3b. I bet we trade Barney. Bonifacio's making the team and we're not cutting Donnie Murphy.
  7. I went from freaking out over an ACL or something to freaking out even more about a wrist injury sapping his power to OH MY GOD THANK GOD HES OK Knee would be less worrisome than wrist. But he's fine. I know...isn't that what my post implies? I was agreeing.

  9. would it kill them to show the replay in slow mo? Baez's was in slo-mo. His bat speed is just that good that it's hard to tell.
  10. I wanna say Kent Bottenfield. Edit: But he did not pitch for the 1998 Cubs, so there's a good chance that's wrong. First start, I wanna say Expos and he K'd like 8 in 4 or something like that.
  11. I could buy Olt hitting .225 with 30 HRs.
  12. Welcome to the MLB roster, Mr. Olt. Please don't suck.
  13. Sort of like how 18 months ago it was suddenly decided that "medical reports" were "medicals."
  14. We need an outfielder or three, but we didn't sit on our hands all offseason when there were several available for just cash, just to trade something valuable to a division rival to get a kinda crappy one.
  15. Next person to say going north is going down or else this whole place will go south.
  16. What's the correlation? One million percent
  17. I absolutely believe they'll add a free agent in the two circumstances they've described: 1) The years we're buying are prime years and not post-prime (almost never available) 2) When we're adding the last piece to an already-awesome team (won't apply to 2015)
  18. Vitters had a better case before ST, but I wouldn't want him going north either.
  19. "Talent" is meaningless if you can't make the baseball touch the bat at a rate better than Madison Baumgarner. I'm not freaking out. I just said I'd be impressed if they had the balls to admit this was coming. The whole point is that I *don't* expect it and there's no point in being mad at them if they don't do it.
  20. I can't stand the "don't worry guys, they're totally going to win a World Series." You don't know that, Rany, and you *know* you don't know that. They're smart. They work hard. There's a crapton of other smart, hard-working franchises out there now trying to prevent you from making the playoffs each year, and when you do make it, there's still just a 1-in-8 shot that you survive the short-series-coin-flip gauntlet. They are going to miss the playoff sometimes, and they are perfectly capable of getting boned by the same run of bad luck that's hit Billy Beane.
  21. Fluke, fluke, unsustainable fluke, yes.
  22. Line Drive % is mostly fluky. Swing-and-miss% isn't. When they are telling us two different things, I know which one is the smart money on listening to.
  23. He can't hit. At all. He can't make contact with baseballs that are pitched at him. He got insanely lucky in every imaginable way last year, and that's going to stop, and we're going to eat his -1.0 WAR for the year and then say "Well, we had to give him a shot." But I'd be impressed if we just short-circuited all that and had the balls to say "Who cares what he did last year? He's not good enough to make this team."
  24. Just the same tired apologism in a reasonably-well written long-form (excluding the excruciating opening. Nobody cares about your kids, Rany).
