  1. At least it's not his elbow. Quit looking for the negative in everything.
  2. It's always something. That's why as awesome as Castro and Rizzo are being, I can't get excited about 2015. We'll fix the outfield and break something else, like we always do.
  3. My heart's just not in it right now. Someone pick up the slack.
  4. He wants to jump off the Baez bandwagon and he's casting about for a reason to justify it.
  5. Not only that, blatantly trolling for me to respond.
  6. I get positive about things that are worth getting positive about outside of the weird Stockholm Syndrome that makes us want to celebrate platoon 3b with OBPs in the .250s.
  7. I've been on the record as preferring to use net WPA for bullpens for years.
  8. Not at all. You're basically using Strop against me to make your entire argument. I'm just glad you're not running things because with your fixation on small sample sizes, we'd go thru 80 guys a year on the 40 man. Carry on. Oh, STFU. You tried to jump onto David's "Lol, Kyle's so dumb for not thinking the bullpen is great." And I said "guys, it's not great." And I'm right. Admit it. Or don't, whatever.
  9. So I have numbers, and you have vague "looks." Sums it up.
  10. i didn't know if it would be good, but i knew it had a way better chance to be good than last year's piss-poor pen. too many of last year's players were guys with a history of middling k-rates and/or mediocre command. i really like that the cubs have collected a lot of good power arms who, if they fail at starting, can reasonably project to be good middle relievers (grimm, ramirez, vizcaino, arrieta, edwards) along with some power arms who were always going to be relievers (rondon, strop). the bad news is that there aren't enough pitchers in the system who can reliably project to be average or better starters at the major league level. Agree with all of this.
  11. Cubs bullpen outside of Veras and Villanueva (rank in baseball): fWAR 0.6, t-16th net WPA -0.48, 17th By what measure is it "very solid"?
  12. Are you asking me if I get excited or are you asking me if I think the bullpen has been good? You are doing your usual bait-and-switch. "It's good!" "No, it isn't." "Well it might be soon!"
  13. If you don't like net WPA, and you don't like WAR, what do you like? The bullpen as comprised right this moment has some potential and probably isn't a total dumpster fire, and there's some nice arms coming up. I think it's been so long since Cubs fans have seen any part of their team be not terrible that they are confusing "not terrible" for "great."
  14. We've only beaten them 5 times out of 6 now in the playoffs the last two years. Same thing with the Wild. For a team that's just as good as us, we sure do beat them a lot.
  15. Bullpen had 0.1 fWAR going into today, and 29th in net WPA. What exactly is so great about them? We've got some streaky guys on hot streaks right now. It happens.
  16. He's so far in the back of my mind that I can't consider anything he does all that worth worrying (or getting excited) about. Like I just don't care, fairly or not. He's a big stocky guy who only can play one position and hasn't shown that much power in the minors. He'd have to hit so well to even have significant trade value, too. He's a second-round pick who projects to top out in the high minors. That's what second-round picks do.
  17. Looks like we're getting LA. Home ice is awesome, but LA is better than I realized. They were No. 1 and we were No. 2 in the NHL in both Corsi and Fenwick even-strength percentage. There's a really good chance this is series that decides who wins the Cup.
  18. I wish Javy Baez were hitting as well as Brett Jackson.
  19. And the Cubs have a .333 win percentage with a nearly 50/50 run differential. Some things are flukes.
  20. I haven't seen the line, but I bet that would have been good value. i believe he said they were -110...which would make them favorites. Ehhhh. Yeah, I can't take that. Samardzija's as overrated right now as the Cubs are underrated.
  21. I haven't seen the line, but I bet that would have been good value.
  22. Fantasy sites are sometimes slow to updated UER. Cubs.com's gamecast shows it as one UER and one ER.
