  1. Why are so many players with sub .290 OBPs on pace for really solid fWARs?
  2. I wish. Why? We're both douchey annoying baseball fans who spend too much time on the internet. He's doing it better.
  3. We'll need to find a 3b that doesn't suck unless Bryant can handle it.
  4. I want Bryant/Rizzo/Baez batting 2-3-4 next year. I renounce all Theo hate if that leads us to the playoffs in 2015. I'll settle for the stupid half-spot and losing the WC game.
  5. I'm kinda rooting for Samardzija to be the first SP to make the All-Star team winless.
  6. On the current the 25-man roster: Arrieta, Olt, Lake, Russell, Veras, Baker, Kalish, Coghlan. Less sold on than most people: Grimm, Rondon, Ramirez, Wood (that's a weird reversal), Castillo I'm calling it: This is amended and not considered a Game Thread post. Wood though? Only one I'm surprised you listed. Wood xFIP as a Cub: 4.62, 4.50, 4.07 Sure, he gets some credit for being a fly-ball pitcher who is relatively good at preventing home runs, but he's still pretty average-ish, maybe a bit above average. I thought he was underrated when he lost his job to Chris freaking Volstad, but now that he put up a 3.11 ERA that one time he's become overrated. He's still the same guy.

  8. Also, Junior Lake is 2-for-3 tonight, because BABIP still doesn't apply to him.
  9. Four shutout innings since I posted this. You are all welcome.
  10. It's really hard to screw up a team so royally that you don't occasionally flirt with adequacy, despite Epstein's best efforts.
  11. This team is gonna get back to within 7 games of .500 at some point.
  12. Arrieta sucks and I'll be glad when we move him to the pen where he might be kinda good.
  13. We should be worried now because his numbers aren't below the worry threshold.
  14. It is fundamental in the NSBB Constitution that nothing said in the Game Thread counts.
  15. The intensity of the Baez hot streak is proportional to the length and depth of the preceding slump. http://streetsmarks.files.wordpress.com/2011/12/docbrown.jpg We're about to see some serious [expletive].
  16. You're gonna have to find it. I have no problem admitting when I'm wrong, which is often, but I really don't remember saying anything of the sort. Maybe I did, but I genuinely don't remember it. Nothing Lake does well that I can think of stablizes around 400 PAs. All he does well is get an absurd BABIP (which can easily take over 1,000 PAs to stabilize) and show surprising power for a guy who swings and misses an absurd amount of the time.
  17. Good. Because I wasn't wrong. It doesn't mean that. He's not going to sustain a .387 BABIP. And when it stops, so does his value, because he's a sub-.300 OBP guy as it is.
  18. no it isn't I'm fairly certain you said recently things start to sustain around that number and that if he had kept it up, he'd be an interesting case. I am 100% positive that I didn't say "things" start to sustain around that number. That's way too vague. Different things sustain at different rates.
  19. Contact rate is Balls in play + HRs + fouls / Swings
  20. Everything OK? You're a little lash-out-y today.
  21. Alcantara is Javy if Javy broke his wrist and tore out his knee simultaneously, and thus came back with way less power, less defensive potential and a year older. But switch-hitting.
  22. *shrug* Lake's fluky 2.5 wins aren't exactly changing our world.
