    Appel gave up 10 runs in 1 1/3 inning. Some tried to blame it on tipping pitches. Almost everyone has had the reaction that tipping pitches is bad, but it doesn't explain *that* level of badness or a pitcher who was supposed to be far, far beyond this level on raw ability alone. You seem to be disagreeing.

    You kind of fade in and out in terms of frequency and abrasiveness. Generally when people act like this, it means they are upset about something else. Usually you only step in when it's actually funny. When it turns toward less witty and more aggressive, I assume something's bothering you.

    So as long as you *really* believe that your guess is right, it works? Come on. Merely knowing what pitch is coming is not some voodoo magic that turns elite pitchers into scrubs. Appel's coaches are making excuses for him. That's what minor league coaches do.

    In both situations, the batter intentionally plans his swing around a certain type of pitch rather than waiting until the pitch is in the air to try to read it.

    they're not guessing if he's tipping his pitches. I get that. But if they can smack him around 100% of the time with tipping, then they should be able to smack him around most of the time with guessing, right?

    It's perfectly ordinary for elite college pitchers to get smacked around in A-ball just because the hitters knew a fastball was coming. :roll: If it were that easy to hit elite pitchers because you guessed what was coming, elite pitchers would get hit a lot more than they do.

    I was annoyed by the water bottle thing too, but there's not a chance in a billion years they call that penalty at that point in the game. The two best teams in the NHL played to a virtual draw. Someone had to lose.
