  1. Everybody agrees with this.
  2. Appel gave up 10 runs in 1 1/3 inning. Some tried to blame it on tipping pitches. Almost everyone has had the reaction that tipping pitches is bad, but it doesn't explain *that* level of badness or a pitcher who was supposed to be far, far beyond this level on raw ability alone. You seem to be disagreeing.
  3. I sincerely apologize for whatever gave you that incredibly erroneous impression.
  4. You kind of fade in and out in terms of frequency and abrasiveness. Generally when people act like this, it means they are upset about something else. Usually you only step in when it's actually funny. When it turns toward less witty and more aggressive, I assume something's bothering you.
  5. 10 runs in 1 1/3 IP levels of suck?
  6. He'd probably put up an ERA on the good side of 67.50
  7. So as long as you *really* believe that your guess is right, it works? Come on. Merely knowing what pitch is coming is not some voodoo magic that turns elite pitchers into scrubs. Appel's coaches are making excuses for him. That's what minor league coaches do.
  8. In both situations, the batter intentionally plans his swing around a certain type of pitch rather than waiting until the pitch is in the air to try to read it.
  9. they're not guessing if he's tipping his pitches. I get that. But if they can smack him around 100% of the time with tipping, then they should be able to smack him around most of the time with guessing, right?
  10. What's been up with you lately? You're starting to make another turn toward cranky.
  11. It's perfectly ordinary for elite college pitchers to get smacked around in A-ball just because the hitters knew a fastball was coming. If it were that easy to hit elite pitchers because you guessed what was coming, elite pitchers would get hit a lot more than they do.
  12. You are the one being crazybuckets here. Feel free to post some more GIFs though.
  13. The No. 1 overall pick coming out of college should be able to let hitters at this level ask for a specific pitch and still not get rocked.
  14. he played as a back-up in 2012, so it's not super relevant to how he compares to other full-time C using a reasonable time-frame Well, if you believe that "how he's ranked in fWAR over the last 1.5 years" is absolutely the entirety of the discussion to be had, then you've made your point completely and thoroughly.
  15. *shrug* OK, guess we won't DFA him today after all.
  16. None of which fully answers the more important question of what we are going to get from him going forward.
  17. http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=c&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=0&type=8&season=2014&month=0&season1=2013&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0 Hmm. Why was that endpoint chosen? Why not 2012 to 2014? Why not 2014 alone?
  18. It's enough to make me glad we're looking good for the No. 1 pick next year.
  19. I don't completely understand the Crawford extension, but this organization has more than earned the benefit of the doubt.
  20. I was annoyed by the water bottle thing too, but there's not a chance in a billion years they call that penalty at that point in the game. The two best teams in the NHL played to a virtual draw. Someone had to lose.
  21. Except Kane and Toews already have two rings.
