  1. I never saw those. I logged off and never looked back the moment I realized ERA+ was the dominant pitching metric and that they actively derided anything more advanced.
  2. Nah, I just don't wanna get into it. It's the same reason Kyle got scared off MR and didn't finish his argument. You can write 2 page long winded arguments, but you're not going to change another fan base's opinion. Especially a fan as dumb as you seem to me. It's pointless. I'll leave on this note though. You guys seem to like Hammel here, so even if you think Niese is as good. I am pretty sure you would want Hammel if he was 27 years old, a lefty, and was under team control for the next 5 years for extremely cheap (8 mil a year...compared to guys like Arroyo and Nolasco who are making 10-13 mil). Sounds pretty appealing to me. Niese isn't under control for five more years, and if you keep him all four with the Club options, he costs you $9.25m per year and not $8m. L2math
  3. I promise you, for your board's sake, you do not want to say stuff like that. You are tempting some serious fate. There are like four people on earth who aren't so dumb about baseball that I can stand listening to them. I found none on MR and you guys don't need an opposing fan telling you that all day, and I've still got too many Cubs fans to call dumb. Just do it. They have no [expletive] clue. Seriously. It's the baseball fan message board equivalent of this: http://achewood.com/index.php?date=04072014
  4. I think he's got a shot at becoming a long term rotation option at least. All I'm really hoping for is for one of him or Wada to look good enough that we feel we're 4 deep heading into the offseason. There were some things I didn't hate about him. He was more or less exactly as advertised: He might be an acceptable MLB starter, but he has no margin for error like walking two to open the game. The changeup was nasty.

  6. Hendricks' fastball averaged 89.6 or 89.7 and peaked at 92.6. Six broke 91.0
  7. Suck it stupid Reds I'm glad half your players got hurt
  8. Guys we have to have replay because then all the controversial calls will be gotten right...
  9. The Brewers falling apart would be more fun if it didn't mean one of the other jerk teams in the NL Central would win. I think we've reached perfect equipoise where I hate them all roughly equally.
  10. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD THEO IF YOU SEND THIS MAN DOWN I WILL CRY AND YOU DO NOT WANT TO SEE ME CRY
  11. Chapman threw two consecutive high inside fastballs to Schierholtz, one behind his head and then one that didn't miss his face by all that much. The Cubs bench started yelling at him about it, then later Chapman got the K and did a little dance off the mound toward the Cubs dugout and stared into it a bit, so then the Cubs started yelling at him even more. Then when Rizzo was out at 1b before the next inning, someone said something from the Reds dugout and he challenged them all to a fight en masse.
  12. This game is getting boring now. Start another fight or let the Reds win.
  13. MR standard. Without regard to who is right or who is wrong, they are *terrible* at presenting coherent arguments of any kind.
  14. And if you're going to call someone dumb (which I highly encourage), please back it up with, you know, an argument of some kind. Kind of obvious isn't it? That's twice he's used a 3 month sample to compare two pitchers. That's *almost* the beginnings of an argument. Maybe, sorta. It's an improvement. Niese has a longer track record of consistency. Hammel has been better two of the last three seasons when he's pitching, which hasn't been as often as Niese has. I'll leave it up to you to parse which one is "better," and feel free to package a pair of Niese's for a Russell-caliber return if you can.
  15. If you're going to say "I'm out," please mean it. And if you're going to call someone dumb (which I highly encourage), please back it up with, you know, an argument of some kind.
  16. Nah, you guys read what you want to read. I made it very explicit that it's not easy and it may very well fail, just that it was a better bet to focus your elite resources on hitting and take your chances with a broad-based approach to acquiring pitching, and I pointed to some key examples of times it has worked for both the Cubs and other teams. "ZOMG, he said pitching was easy to acquire!" was just dumb fandom talking.
  17. Holy crap I wouldn't blame him if his pants were a little wet
  18. I think there's a pretty good chance Wada pitches better than Wood these next three months. I like his fastball and change/forkball combo better than Wood's 85 mph cutter and questionable offspeeds. It makes me sad that this might be true.
  19. Alcantara = spark at at the top of the lineup. Ricky needs to beg Theo not to send him down. Get on your $#%#@$ knees if you have to.
  20. I'm exaggerating a bit, though, because the Mets actually do have some nice position players and the basis of a decent team. I like their management team, although it seems like that means less and less because the number of bad front offices is pretty close to zero anymore. But I sure as heck wouldn't trade places with them because of their pitching. Especially when Harvey's on TJS and Syndergaard is already having elbow owies.
  21. You don't think the Mets have good young pitching?... Why wouldn't we be excited? :S You totally have good young pitching. It's like having a fortune tied up in poorly stored gasoline.
