  1. They need to make the playoffs enough to end their tenure having done so a reasonable percentage of the time. Jim Hendry made it 3 times out of 9. Epstein's got some work to do to beat that.
  2. That's dumb and by extension you're dumb, you dirty apologist. It's uncanny how the assessment of our chances in each year always goes down after the fact, when it makes things look better to retcon those chances.
  3. This is the part where someone says that Epstein inherited the worst MLB team in history and literally didn't even field a farm system, so it's perfectly ordinary for him to still have one of the worst teams in baseball after three years.
  4. That's the dirty little secret of The Plan. Unless they go on an unparalleled run in the current MLB environment, they aren't going to win enough to make up for the hole they've put themselves in. Why do they have to balance anything out? Just wine nought toget into the post-season crap shoot every year. Fun fact: the Cubs have something like the fifth or sixth best historical winning percentage in MLB Because they *aren't* getting into the postseason crap shot "every year." They've failed to get into it three years in a row.

  6. MLB average is 7.5%. If you're above that in the minors, it's a bit of a problem. I mean, I'd rather have that problem than not enough Ks or something, but it's not good.
  7. His walk rate was 8.4% last year, and since he came back from the injury this year it's 10.5% Don't think it's going to be a long term concern. Aren't those kinda bad?
  8. I know I've said this a bunch of times, but there are only so many Pujols misses a team gets before they can't spend for a while. It just seems like many on this board -- I acknowledge it's bad to make such broad generalizations -- want every single big name free agent each season no matter the years or the price without thinking much of the overall picture. And then many times a few years later, it's like, damn, glad we didn't sign that guy. Yeah, I'm sure glad we got nothing instead. If we'd wasted money on those guys, we might have ended up in last place for years on end. Bullet dodged.
  9. The BBs are great, but it's the drop in Ks that's really exciting. The fact that he's getting promoted soon is what's really coming. Javy is coming.
  10. lineup for Iowa is same as usual: who cares, who cares, Baez, Bryant, who cares, who cares, who cares, who cares, who cares
  11. I was talking to a woman on a dating site who was on the low end of my 1/2age+7 rule and she wasn't even born when Seinfeld season 2 was running. That's when I noped out of dating sites. You aren't 36 yet, are you? I'm 32. People born the after the second season of Seinfeld finished would be no older than 23.
  12. He probably already knows but is saving it. He promised something before Thursday and he better be clicking "send" unto Bleacher Nation as I type. kyle already pried it out of him but was sworn to secrecy awesome
  13. He probably already knows but is saving it. lest he be mocked for sharing his otherwise secret info You know he's getting his job done when we now have two things to make fun of that are never going away. Sharma has top-secret scouting contacts that tell him Soler has been locked in at AA.
  14. He probably already knows but is saving it.
  15. Bruce Levine said a bunch of scouts were watching Bonifacio and he's gone as soon as he's played a week or so to prove he's healthy. Oh my, why might we be sending all our 2b away?

  17. I haven't seen those. Was he a guy who was right all the time? Because I was dead right in every one of those posts. You know I'm just giving you [expletive], kyle. I was just thinking about how dated we are all getting. The NSBB demographic fits a pretty narrow band.
  18. That's 6 unless Castro got cloned or you meant Russell. It's pretty crazy. I've been wanting a veteran power hitter (Nelson Cruz mainly) for the last 2 years and was really hoping for one this offseason. But we've officially reached the point where a FA would literally block someone very much worthwhile from coming up next year. I meant Castillo.
  19. Contact rate holding steady around 75%. He's gonna be fine.
  20. Whatever defensive arrangement you want to put them in: Rizzo, Castro, Alcantara, Castillo, Soler, Baez, Bryant. That's seven by late April, although I could see Castillo being replaced in the offseason. We're one short of the Dream Scenario (not necessarily my dream, Theo's dream).
  21. We're down to five infielders (four, technically, Bonifacio is listed as an OF) on the active roster. Hmm....
  22. *shrug* If anyone thought it was more than remotely likely that Soler 1.400 OPSed all over AA in his first shot at it, then :hello: . I wonder how much he's going to play. Is this a chance to look around a big-league dugout and watch the veterans, or is he auditioning for a starting job on Opening Day 2015. If it's the latter, then we seriously might see the mythical All-Homegrown Lineup
  23. Almora can handle the aggressive promotion. He's a high-contact guy, which usually translates well. The power increase is really nice lately, because I don't think the BBs are coming.
  24. I haven't seen those. Was he a guy who was right all the time? Because I was dead right in every one of those posts.
