Wow Chris Young is 90th and his baseball card stats are solid. Can someone explain FIP to an old man? I know nothing about it Basically, it takes HRs, BBs and Ks and converts them into something that looks like ERA. It's actually better at predicting ERA than actual ERA is, so the assumption is that it represents a "luck and defense removed" ERA. So what is considered bad/mediocre/average/above average/excellent FIP if you had to give a range? I'm lost on a lot of the newer stats. Same as ERA, that's one of the selling points.
