  1. It saddens me that the hard part is getting the front office to actually want players who aren't prospects.
  2. Anything that puts even one day's more space between the end of the regular season and the start of the divisional round is a non-starter. It's too long as it is. Screw travel days, start it on Tusday and Wednesday.
  3. This is the only way adding more games to that round would be remotely acceptable. But even then, only for the novelty factor.
  4. Anyone who tries to suggest expanding the WC play-in round to 3 or 5 games should be punched in the face by someone large who can throw a solid punch.
  5. You ever tried to deny a 60-pound autistic kid his videos? I don't care if everything else in life falls apart, the internet is always there. derwood can watch whatever he wants http://38.media.tumblr.com/e95bd2a317c632ad00fce24bbf9385ca/tumblr_mloa08X1v91rq3i3ro1_500.gif

  8. I regret not a one of those things. In my long list of life failures, those are like the only three things I did right, ever.
  9. At some point in your life, you thought moving to or continuing to live in Oklahoma was your best option.
  10. Because it's a funny way of framing that striking out 42% of the time is a lot. Not just kind of a lot, but like a lot a lot.
  11. Have you ever gone back and read posts from 3 years back at any point? We're all wrong 80% of the time in ridiculously hilarious ways. This is all pointless.
  12. If you asked every person in the world to draw five sandwiches, would any of the resulting 30 billion pictures be a hot dog? Nope. QED
  13. That's my default reaction to all stimuli.
  14. That probably just saved Howard from all those decline years bringing his average down to .230.
  15. Then pull up a chair, I guess?
  16. he hit 43 home runs as a 22 year old in his first crack at the advanced minor leagues (howard hit 46 in the same stage of his minor league career, but was 2 years older). adjusting for for diminished offensive environment, it's quite reasonable to expect that bryant in his prime will be among the league leaders in home runs, just as howard was during his prime. You are mistaking "hope" and "expect." The offensive environment is part of the reason we expect Bryant's BA to be fairly low. You're high-end, survivorship bias comp still just had a .265 career average at a time when that was the roughly the MLB average, which is down to .250 now.
  17. PED Bonds but with fewer Ks
  18. Not until we have Kris Bryant's career to make it a useful comparison for this discussion.
  19. Ryan Howard is probably the high-end comp offensively. All Bryant has to do is average 50 HRs/year in his prime. Easy peasy.
  20. Dustin Ackley? He hit 241/293/398 this year. Odd comp. Prado hit 282/321/412 and had 2.6 wins in 143 games. Add another 80 points of SLG and a few more games and I'd totally take that as a career average from any prospect.
  21. Why won't he strike out as much as Mark Reynolds? Reynolds skipped AAA, but at AA he had a 24.5% K-rate in 282 PAs, age 22 and 23 seasons. Bryant was at 25.9% in AA in 297 PAs in his age 22 season.
  22. Plus a 325 OBP and 525 SLG with decent defensive value is like a 6-win player.
  23. I think he is being right. Tomato, tomato.
  24. I think too many people are looking at the slash line and trying to come up with ways to handwave away the peripherals that don't support it.
  25. Bryant's not going to be hitting 35 HRs per 500 ABs. Giancarlo Stanton himself only averages 33.6 per 500 ABs. And while I like Bryant and he *can* become Stanton, I don't think that should be the median projection.
