I would have settled for him just not looking old, slow, fat, and clumsy Lance's response is good. He caught the ball, but he fell twice and somehow managed to run for about 6 seconds without getting anywhere. So, good play, but not exactly refuting those adjectives.
At likely FA prices the #46 pick is probably worth upwards of 5 million. Not enough to be a primary consideration, but more than 'basically be ignored' or 'who gives an expletive'. Ewww, this is going to be one of those stupid Fangraphs things where 20 crappy players are worth the same as one Mike Trout, isn't it?
Both would improve my opinion of the front office considerably, but I think that's got to be more of a "thing we hope for but don't really expect" than a plan.
Please don't make me want to kill you as much as I want to kill the Cardinals fans I'm around every day by doing this. Direct your anger at fate for allowing the Cardinals to be so good and the people running the Cubs for making them so bad. They're also looking for their 14th postseason series win in that period. The Cubs have one in the last 105 years.
Sometimes the bottom of the hot dog bun splits, especially if you buy cheap ones (and you know I do). Does it transubstantiate into a sandwich in that moment?
If "the goal" were to decide the best team, just have a 30-team round robin, 6 games against each other team, 3 home and 3 away. There is no "the" goal. There are lots of different goals. Adding excitement to the regular season. Producing a premium product to create more revenue. Being fair to try to create a champion. All of those goals must be weighed against each other when creating a format, not obsessing on one and becoming some kind of min-maxing weirdo about it.
IDEA: Next time I go to the store, I buy hot dogs. I offer one to my son and ask him "What is it?" He doesn't know the word for hot dog, but this can all be decided by whether he says "sandwich" or just "eat."
I'm not saying it's inconsistent. I'm saying it's disappointingly accurate. With most organizations, the reaction could be "wow, if true, this is gonna be cool to get these good players." With this one, my reaction is "Man, I sure hope we actually want some of the good players." Because a lot of time we seem to just not want them.
