  1. Everyon happy with Caleb Williams is all I ask. Good enough to keep his future median projection where it is now. For wins and losses, there's *so* much volatility, very few outcomes would surprise me. We've got a complete unknown at the most important position in sports. QBs have come in and had big seasons relatively more often in recent years, but it's still the exception rather than the rule. Besides Williams, all those draft picks we've used in the last few years are about to hit their 2nd/3rd year make-or-break seasons. DBs, DL, RT are all full of guys who are the right age and pedigree to have solid or better seasons but haven't proven they can do it yet and could easily suck out loud too. And got help our interior line yet again.
  2. That's just the nature of free agency. It's a sport where peaks are trending younger to the degree that most players are in their decline years before they hit free agency. You get what you get, or you get nothing.
  3. On paper, this seems like a really, really good trade and not an easy one to find. Using the team's glut of prospects to get a legit plus player at the MLB level with years of cheap control left.
  4. If I"m reading that chart right, it's counting how *all* his home runs would look at wrigley. Presumably the effect would be lessened if it accounted for road games.
  5. This is just what you do when you give up. You start using your roster spots and playing time on guys who have some thin, longshot upside if they get MLB playing time that good teams won't want to give them. You'll never get an Arrieta if you aren't willing to cycle through a few dozens of these turds when you're out of contention. Is it a good move to do the basic thing that you're supposed to do when you play yourself into a terrible situation? I'll leave that question to the philosophers.
  6. Yeah, that's where I come down. If Jordan Love sucks, they'd be screwed for the next few years regardless. Feels like they could have maybe took a slightly harder line and gotten the number down a bit, but he really had them over a barrel.
  7. I deserve this disappointment for believing in NFL preseason
  8. People love the concept of selling high until the chance presents itself.
  9. I'm not wildly against the idea of trading Steele because 1) 29 is ancient 2) I hate pitchers But I better get an insane haul of cost-controlled, potentially elite position players
  10. Only 10 days until the preseason opener. This is the most hyped I've been to see a sports team in quite a few years. There's plenty of downside and ways it could go wrong, but the upside is just as real in a way I'm not sure I've ever seen from the bears.
  11. Apparently williams' camp, probably his dad, asked for a bunch of weird dumb stuff like the Bears not paying Williams but instead paying an LLC set up to avoid taxes https://xkcd.com/1494/
  12. I am 0% worried about them signing until they miss some training camp. And even then I'll only be a tiny bit concerned.
  13. Rebuild for 5 years, compete for 4, then rebuild for 5 more. You get to try less than half the time but fans will think it makes them virtuous and patient to believe in it.
  14. I think the problems with the organization run a lot deeper than whether or not they pay a bajillion dollars for some 29-year-old free agent every other off-season.
  15. It's kinda Jed Hoyer's job to figure things out that aren't obvious to message boarders pulling from public data.
  16. It's 2024 and someone unironically typed that "they couldn't see the offense regressing, the average age was 28." lol
  17. I'd rather say "shrug it's a fourth round pick" than be one of those bears fans suddenly soliloquizing over the importance of punters I got all of that out my system with sauerbrun
  18. I'm dumb enough to make mistakes like that sober.
  19. I'm not upset about it or anything, but on principle, I refuse to agree with the concept of trading up to get a punter.
  20. It's the NFL and contracts are easy to dump, so I won't be mad if they do, but I don't feel the need to extend Keenan Allen. Everyone's great until they aren't, and he's at an age where he's basically just wile e coyote staying in the air until he notices he's off the cliff and falls straight down. Getting an elite wr was so clutch because despite all our investments, the wr room wasn't looking amazing more than a year or two down the road. Poles comes out of the first three years looking like a genius, pending the small matter of actually playing the football games and winning them, but that's basically a formality probably.
  21. The Vikings having to trade up just to get QB5 makes me happy.
  22. We can quibble over all kinds of stuff he's done, but if he hits on Williams, then the trade with carolina dwarfs pretty much everything in terms of impact.
  23. This is probably the happiest I've been with the Bears since 2006
  24. We're really gonna get 3 WRs in the top 8. That's crazy.
  25. I didn't fully believe Daniels at 2 until it happened.
