  1. what Maybe he isn't old enough to remember the late 80's and 90's. Or 4 years ago. I like what I like. I didn't say it was the best team, just the one that I felt like watching. It was like 1992 when I learned that there were other sports besides baseball, but by that time everybody in the world was a Bulls fan, so being me I naturally wanted to root against them. I've been trying off and on since Elton Brand, but I usually get bored. I probably will this time, too, but who knows.
  2. Shoulda traded him to the Mets when we had the chance.
  3. I'd much prefer one of the guys in next years class to Shields, assuming that's all we can afford. Next year's team is going to win 100 games on the back of 50 HRs by Bryant, 40 from Soler and 30 by Russell. This year's team needs the help more.
  4. I'm not a huge Shields fan, but it'd be better than standing pat.
  5. This is the longest that a Bulls team has ever kept my interest during the regular season. They're fun to watch.
  6. Dangit. Now I have to pretend that strikeouts are overrated and he's obviously going to hit 40+. Well-played.
  7. While I don't disagree, "take a run at" and "hit 49+" aren't the same thing and I'm going to nitpick your post like that because you're a stupid jerk. I would be pretty shocked if he hit 35. Homers are really hard to come by.
  8. Despite what Phil Rogers says, I would be pretty shocked if Bryant hit 49+ HRs as a rookie. I don't think I'd be the only one.

  12. I'm going to be really annoyed (surprise!) if we're basically done and cruising through the rest of the offseason outside of dumping Castillo and maybe Wood. We've had to suck for three years because of the stupid "there's no difference between 78 and 68 wins" success cycle mumbo jumbo. Now we've got a team that is right in the fattest part of the curve on the value of wins, and a huge pile of tradeable prospects, and we're just going to poke our heads up long enough to reward one of Epstein's Boston friends and then go back into conserving resources mode.
  13. Garza to the Rangers was speculated for like 18 solid months. It was widely known they were trying to trade Samardzija and Dempster.
  14. Yep. They're super tight lipped, but all the leaks are everybody else, because they're so awesome and everyone else is so lame. They leak exactly as much as everyone else does. They tell things to reporters when they want things to get told. They deal with agents, other teams, and scouts, all of whom also talk to reporters. Thats some pretty stupid [expletive], so im assuming youre being sarcastic and actually agreeing with me. Theo Epstein is definitely your new bicycle.

  16. lol, no Uh, let me make sure I'm doing this right... Ha, yes? Obnoxious: check Contributing nothing: yup. I think I got it. I am directly disputing your statement that they have been a quiet FO or that moves have come out of nowhere. Virtually everything they've done has been telegraphed, and we've had several moves imploded after they were allegedly done through leaks. They leak just as much as everybody else and then some. I know they're everybody's new bicycle, but sometimes the stuff people say is just completely contrary to what actually happens.
  17. Never "very high"? It looks 35-38% for a while there which is definitely very high. But it could have been like 45%, so if you think about that as a theoretical possibility, then 30% isn't even that bad.
  18. Meh. It feels like people want a loophole like this to be there so badly, but I'm just not sure the talent you get in year 1 is all that much more impressive than the talent you get for playing it straight.
  19. If I'm understanding this right, 250k for each game finished between 50 and 59. Then 250k for pitching in 50 games, and another 250k for pitching in 65 games, but the most his bonus can be is $2.5m Did we make him any kind of promises about finishing games? Did we just spend money on a Proven Closer? I would guess the gf in that tweet means games finished - meaning he gets a $250K bonus for every game he finishes from 50-59 and then for 60 and 65. I got that. I was wondering if we made him a promise about getting a chance to close games.
  20. Wouldn't be the first time, probably won't be the last.

  22. The funny part is that Bears lost and they're still crowning him. The magic of expectation setting. All he had to do was not completely poop his pants. Possibly literally.
  23. I just turned this game on, and I am not prepared to live in a world where Jimmy Clausen led the Bears to this win. I got over Tebow, but this might break me.
  24. And he got my job. It all evened out.
