  1. LaStella is a Herrera-level fringe bench guy, imo, frequently seen as a borderline starter/fifth-infielder type.
  2. La Stella is unavailable due to injury. Snicker withdrawn, but he's still overrated.
  3. They're a pretty good hockey team who will play a bunch of close games with some other pretty good hockey teams, and we'll act like the final results are some sort of reflection of their innate character and worthiness whether it goes for good or bad.
  4. The modern record for HBP is 50. Rizzo on pace for 162. Snicker to see the supremely overrated LaStella losing starts to Herrera.
  5. I don't understand why there has to even be a reason. I mean everyone knows what the Cubs are doing. Something about good faith in employment laws or something. It's deeper than the CBA itself. But the labor laws were collectively bargained? How can the PA argue that the Cubs are doing wrong when they agreed to these rules? I understand everyone thinks it's [expletive] but so is paying some players way under market value their first 5 years in the league. Because that's just how it works? I dunno, IANAlaborlawyer. It's probably different in every state and every level, and it's probably never been tested so there's no real precedent here, but there are examples where common law "don't be a dickwad to your employees" principles can outweigh a contract or CBA. All sides are acting like it's at least theoretically possible for the team to lose if it were to go to an arbitrator and they made it obvious enough.

  7. Huh. That's gonna make things interesting.
  8. He's not ready. I'm worried about the lack of power. Asked and answered.
  9. http://weknowmemes.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/hotdogs-thrown-on-girls-face.jpg Never enough.
  10. The "hit it over the wall" play is powerful. We should ape it with our offense.
  11. I'm with the others who say he used to be good, even great. I think the last few years with Santo just kinda broke him. I can't stand the excitement in his voice when bad things happen to us/good things to the other team. It messes with my head/expectations because any emotion I feel is based entirely on that because I am not seeing the game. Swirsky does the same [expletive], and I can't stand it. It's not my only complaint, but it's probably my biggest issue. I imagine that'll be less annoying when there's reasons for him to get excited about our team with any regularity.
  12. I won't apologize for having terrible small-town Midwestern taste in entertainment, food, music, home decor or lawn decoration.
  13. They already had to use Motte just to get out of the 5th. There's only so many guys in the bullpen to use, and today is the first of 6 straight. The other real option was Jaxon, which probably would have resulted in further histrionics. Honestly, down by 2 in the second half of the game isn't that high in terms of leverage. You are very likely going to lose regardless.
  14. Excuse me. Excuse me. I was, I was promised some dongs.
  15. Hughes used to be good. I keep thinking/hoping that if the Cubs are ever fun again, Hughes will revert to how good he was before he let Santo and hopelessness ruin him. But we may never find out.
  16. To provide contrast, so that the bad can feel really bad.
  17. Remember when we had decent MI depth and gave it away for nothing, then fielded terrible infield benches for four years?
  18. He gave up a HR to the first batter he saw last night in AAA.
