  1. All basketball is dumb. "Hooray, they scored a basket. That will only happen about 40 more times per team." Hockey is never boring and gets more awesome as the season goes
  2. Seen in a BTF comment: Winning run was scored by the 2012 first-rounder, after advancing on a fly ball by the 2013 first-rounder, after coming in a pinch-runner for the 2014 first-rounder.
  3. All the PTR posts, or inane posts from people indignant that the front office wasn't trying hard enough to only lose 85+ games in 2012-14 instead of 95+. The Soriano photoshop thread was also pretty great. I'm less ashamed of anti-rebuild posts than I am the ones that insist Kyle Hendricks was a meaningless non-entity when acquired
  4. Every post from 2011 about how stupid anyone who called for a rebuild was being.
  5. It'll be quiet because the market sucks but I'm fascinated with the trade market this year. I keep trying to think about off-season plans and Jay Cutler don't caaaaare forces itself into my mind and World Series highlights start playing
  6. Yesss. The best part of the Blackhawks run was seeing how quickly it went from being scrappy young guys that everyone is rooting for to every other team hating you.
  7. I'm too lazy to dig up the link, but SABR has some good stuff about what they call "Golden Pitches." A pitch that has the potential to end in either team winning the World Series. They don't have pitch data for a couple of the early ones, but before last night they believe it has happened 7 times for a total of about 40. Mike Montgomery added two to that total last night.
  8. I do think Maddon spazzed out on his Chapman usage the last two games and it almost cost him. But he has been brilliant at everything else. His work this year was a master class in how to maximize a deep roster. He has been pulling Hendricks early all year and it led directly to Hendricks winning the ERA title. Using three catchers effectively was not easy and he nailed it right up through last night when all three got big hits.
  9. Saw a cool stat. SABR tracks "golden pitches," which are pitches that can end in either team winning the World Series. There had been at least 36 and probably 40 from a total of seven pitchers before last night. Mike Montgomery becomes the eighth, throwing two.
  10. Small sample size. 8-5 over 13 games isn't bad but let's see if they can sustain it.
  11. Even being generous and including the playoffs, he is 9 games under .500 for the Cubs with two good seasons against three bad. Is that really worth a love thread?
  12. Remember when Fowler led off with a HR approximately seven years ago?
  13. It didn't hit me until after it was over that it probably goes down as the greatest game in history.
  14. Is less than 90 wins still in the range of possibilities?
  15. I hope Joe Maddon picks exactly one player from every other team and just shamelessly stuffs the AS game with Cubs
  16. I thought I was more jaded than this but I am emotional and shaky. I can't wait to get the special jerseys with the gold trim
  17. Theo is still under .500 in his tenure or something Not as many titles as Frank Chance
  18. I'm shaking and crying. I thought I would be cool about it but I am not
  19. He got away with it but it was absurd to leave Chapman in there. He was toast and Maddon didn't want to admit he messed up yesterday and wore him out. They deserve this loss
  20. Can't believe Maddon Dusty'd this. Sure am glad we spazzed out and had Chapman protecting a five-run lead yesterday
  21. Please please please I will never ask for anything again and I know I said that so many times but I mean it or maybe not but please anyway
  22. Oh crap I'm counting outs in my head. I don't want to but once you think about it you can't stop
