  1. I hate that saying so much. If the Blackhawks lose tonight, they have to win 4 out of 5 the rest of the way against the defending Cup champions. They have to defend three full home games and Detroit only has to defend two. If that saying is true, there's like half a dozen series that never ended.
  2. Hope Detroit isn't so good once Yzerman and Federov get past their primes? Oops. :(
  3. Hawks were the better team that period.
  4. Burish gets away with a huge hit from behind into the boards.
  5. Wow. Outside of giving up a shorthander, I can't imagine a worse PP.
  6. Full minute of 5-on-3. Could have been about 10 seconds more.
  7. So far, I like the way they are playing defense. Control the middle of the ice, force the shots to the outside. Similar to what Vancouver was doing.
  8. Kane and Toews split up to start the game, just like I suggested. Q and I are like this *makes mind gesture*
  9. As long as it's consistent within the clauses, it's fine grammatically. Semantically, it depends on the situation and the meaning. In the context, "we" and "they" are interchangeable unless I'm trying to emphasize with one or the other, i.e. "we (as opposed to them, emphasizing my membership)" or "they (of whom I am not a member, emphasizing my exclusion)." Since I wasn't trying to emphasize either, both are fine, especially in non-formal writing.
  10. They are just trying to get me to punch a kitten today. In response to this post: "Let's go Hawks. If they are going to win the series, it starts tonight by playing a more competitive game, win or lose. They need to show that their defense can take the puck away and clear the zone more often, and we need to do a much better job of preventing odd man rushes. If they can do that, win or lose tonight, they've got a chance to take care of business at home." I get this PM: "WE OR THEY???, Today, 03:16 PM Let's go Hawks. If they are going to win the series, DO YOU MEAN IF WE ARE? it starts tonight by playing a more competitive game, win or lose. They need to show DO YOU MEAN WE NEED TO SHOW ? that their(OUR) defense can take the puck away and clear the zone more often, and we need to do a much better job of preventing odd man rushes. If they(WE) can do that, win or lose tonight, they've (WE"VE) got a chance to take care of business at home. THESE ARE BASIC GRAMMAR SKILLS! YOU MUST BE A COLLEGE GRAD???? LOL" From a guy who apparently looks like this, and thus can't be some dumb elementary school kid: http://nhluploads.invisionzone.com/chicago/profile/photo-33255.jpg
  11. chicagoblackhawks.com is the really awful one. It's nothing but meathead fans who like to type things like "COMMIT TO THE INDIAN!!!" in all caps.
  12. I really, really wish there were a better place to talk Blackhawks than here (six posts a day), HFboards.com (all Canadian homers) and boards.chicagoblackhawks.com (that place makes me want to punch kittens right in the face.)
  13. The Red Wings have a long history of resigning their players to below-market value, and even getting some outside free agents to come there for huge discounts. It's a self-perpetuating deal, they are awesome and win Cups, so players want to play for them and are willing to take less money, which helps them be awesome and win Cups. The Hawks can't just assume the same thing.
  14. Havlat apparently hurt his ankle yesterday and did not practice today. Rumor is it is bad.
  15. As far as I can see, Pahlsson's been excellent on faceoffs and well above-average in his own zone.
  16. I'd be really wary about resigning Havlat. He's finally healthy in his contract year, which is a big red flag, and we have lots of good forwards.
  17. In our "terrible" first two periods in game 1 against Vancouver, we outshot them 18-16. Our defense didn't concede 29 shots.
  18. I'd like to see Toews and Kane split up. Toews looked very good out there, and Q is (rightly or wrongly, I think rightly) scared to put Kane out there much at even-strength.
  19. You draw penalties by controlling the play and forcing the defensemen into bad positions. When did we ever do that?
  20. Not against this set of defensemen. This is a whole different world than Vancouver (minus their best D-man) and Calgary (minus their best D-man).
  21. 4-2. Score starting to reflect the play.
