  1. Why should that matter? The most important part of the job is getting on base. Speed is way back in the distance in terms of importance. Way, WAYYYYYY back. But, to answer the question, yes, he has. 2004 was such a long time ago. LOL... Actually, meant that speed was wayyy wayyy back in terms of importance. But I could see how that could be misinterpreted. Did Walk not lead off at all in 05? Of course he didn't lead-off in 2005, but why should Walker be faulted for the misguided ideas of his manager.
  2. Yikes! Looking at those dollars makes me glad I'm not in Hendry's shoes. Fixing this mess he created may not be possible over the next two years.
  3. Which is what he does? He's got 2 100 RBI seasons in his career, and he's 30, and has hit in the middle of some good lineups. That's nothing special. He doesn't have an inate ability to drive runners in. He's just a second rate corner outfielder who is going to get way too big of a contract, and tha contract will last through his declining years. So who should the Cubs target next year if you were GM? I'm just curious... If I was GM this team wouldn't look at all like this. But if I inherited this mess, and only had a year or two to turn it around (which I assume is Hendry's timeline), then, I guess I'd throw money at Soriano, with Lee as a backup plan and just hope it doesn't blow up in my face too badly. I'd love to trade Izturis off to Baltimore in a swap for Tejada. I really don't know. I used to spend lots of time looking at possible moves and whatnot, but haven't recently. The endless series of disappointing moves took the fun out of it. I can empathize with you, Goony. With this mess, it's tough to make moves that I feel will fix it.
  4. Early potential Soriano rumors have that one being tough. I think I read 5 yr. 80 (16mil per). And that's a lot of dough, and I'd probably pass. Who would pay that much for him? I know the Nationals want to keep him and maybe they are the front-runners. Does Soriano still intend to move back to second? If so, then what becomes of Vidro in Washington?
  5. It seems strange that he's not even 29 yet. I remember talk of getting him in a potential trade of Sosa to the DBacks (at least I remember talk of Padilla, just don't remember if it was Sosa or not). He went straight from a reliever to a 200 IP starter, which probably played a part in his 2004/2005 health issues. I'm guessing Texas won't have a problem coming up with the cash to keep him. I do think Texas will come up with the cash to keep him, but he does make an interesting option for a middle of the rotation starter.
  6. Another option would be retaining Pierre and signing Soriano. At that point, the team has to decide whether we're better off with Murton or Cedeno in the line-up. Personally, I think we're better off with Murton and would use him in LF with Soriano at second.
  7. Let me say further, I'm not sure if I can fit that squad into a 100 million payroll. It's going to be tight, depending on Soriano's numbers. Also, there are indications the Yankees will pick up Sheffield's option. Signing Soriano becomes the lynch-pin, as he puts some offense in the middle of the line-up and allows the Cubs to shop Cedeno. Cedeno could be used in a package to bring in a RF if the Yankees keep Sheffield.
  8. I can see the Cubs making a push for Schmidt. Zito will be too pricey. I've always thought Padilla had a live arm and wouldn't mind seeing him become a Cub if the price is right.
  9. I'm not sure how the salaries would all fit and I'm not feeling like doing all the number crunching right now...I'll save that for October-November...but anyways... 1. I'd move Jones to CF. 2. I'd try to sign Schmidt, Soriano, and Sheffield. 3. If one of those signs elsewhere, I'd try to use pitching and Cedeno to acquire a big bat for either second or RF. Here's my team (not a line-up, as I haven't put much thought into it) C Barrett 1b Lee 2b Soriano SS Izturis 3b Ramirez LF Murton CF Jones RF Sheffield SP Zambrano SP Schmidt SP Prior SP4-5 Marshall, Hill, Guzman, Marmol, Williams, etc. I think that line-up could produce some runs, even with the health risk in Sheffield. While less than ideal, I'd probably use Soriano in the lead-off spot with Murton hitting second. Izturis slides in the eighth spot, Jones seventh, Barrett sixth with the heart Lee, Sheffield, and Ramirez.
  10. Yuck! That team would be lucky to finish fourth.
  11. I really don't know what happened...I see a ball hit then everything went plaid.
  12. Does Walker project to be a 4th-5th OF type at the major league level?
  13. According to http://www.rotoworld.com Yuliesky Gourriel has not defected.
  14. But I have a feeling most women would disagree with you. My wife says if there was a choice, she'd choose Vaughn.
  15. A 10-2 win puts the Rangers back at .500 and in the thick of the AL West race.
  16. I'd say going from Brad Pitt to Vince Vaughn is trading up.
  17. Another error by the Twins and it's 7-0 Rangers in the 4th.
  18. The Rangers bats finally awaken after a slow week and post a six spot on Boof Bosner to take a 6-0 lead in the 4th. Go Rangers!
  19. Considering the dearth of high-end position prospects in the Cubs system, I'd take a gamble on Dukes.
  20. I like that idea, too. .. .. I just haven't figured out who wuld be our lead off hitter. Our fearless leaders would be tempted to put Izturis there. Or sign Soriano and use him there.... Soriano will be looking to move back to 2B though which does nothing to help our OF. I'd rather keep Izturis/Cedeno up the middle and try for a big bat in the OF. If we decide that Murton isn't the answer in LF, I wouldn't mind seeing Hendry go after Mench if he's rather cheap and then go all-out for a RF. Mench isn't going to be a FA and I doubt the Brewers non tender him.
  21. Smells Like Tuna selects Laurence Maroney, RB NE Patriots.
  22. Excuses...excuses.
  23. I like that idea, too. .. .. I just haven't figured out who wuld be our lead off hitter. Our fearless leaders would be tempted to put Izturis there. Or sign Soriano and use him there....
  24. Well dammit, Steve Stone said we should have traded for him, and by golly if Stone said it, it must be gospel. Stone is clarivoyant you know. If this pitcher can throw a slider that catches the inside corner and dives into the dirt, he should get a strike out here....
