  1. Why? Why? Why? Fun fact: The Cubs offense scored more runs before they acquired Lofton than after. Giles, yes. Pierre, emphatic no. If your batting Giles in the leadoff spot, you lacking a true leadoff hitter. Giles is better suited for the #2 spot. You can take advantage of his hitting skills in the #2 spot in the order. Leadoff hitter gets on, Giles bunts him over. Another example is, leadoff hitter gets on, you can hit and run with Giles. Giles leading off, is like having Jason Kendall leading off. Both are excellent #2 hitters. Your lineup would be 100% better, when they are in the #2 spot in the order. Your leadoff hitter should be a guy with atleast a .370 OBP, you would prefer to have him bat left-handed, a guy who will make contact, and a guy who can steal a base. Please don't ever ask Giles to bunt. He's too good a hitter to give up the out.
  2. I'm going to vote for Moore. He's a left-handed hitting thirdbaseman. His 20 HRs rank him third in the SL and only one behind the two leaders. His OPS is fifth in the league. He's in the top ten in SLG and in the top 15 in AVG and OBP. He's third in total bases.
  3. Will voting be done in this thread or will a poll be set up?
  4. Would trading for Giles instead of signing Soriano be a better option?
  5. But a line-up of Pierre CF Giles 2b Lee 1b Ramirez 3b Jones RF Barrett C Murton LF Izturis SS is lacking power. It's not bad, but I think a better line-up can be assembled. That said, I'd get Giles and worry about the other pieces later.
  6. In Will Carroll's Under the Knife (subscription required), I found this blurb. His numbers have dipped to 267/353/395 this year. While that is a weak SLG, he's been dogged by injuries and it would still be an improvement over Cedeno. His career numbers are still good with 287/364/453. He has a career 817 OPS as a secondbaseman. He'll turn 29 next season and still looks to be a productive player for a couple of years. If the Braves were to put him on the market, one of the Cubs young arms might be enough to net him. If the Cubs added Giles at 2b, moved Jones to CF and signed Sheffield to a one year deal, I think the line-up could be very respectable. 2B Giles LF Murton 1b Lee RF Sheffield 3b Ramirez CF Jones C Barrett SS Izturis The line-up is a little right-handed heavy, but 1-7 is pretty solid. The biggest concern would be Sheffield's health.
  7. I like Theriot, but you never make the third out of an inning at third.
  8. I'd put Moore ahead of Colvin.
  9. Maybe it's the Kingsport Mets he's about to be traded to.
  10. Aww..come on guys! This is just Ozzie being Ozzie.
  11. There's a steak house in Amarillo that's home to a 72 oz steak. If you can eat it all...including the fat and the potato then it's free. If not, I think it's like a $65 steak.
  12. Dusty thought Fontenot and Walker were the same person.
  13. I'd take Barber only because I'm concerned about Portis' shoulder. Either one of those over Manning.
  14. Does my nomination of Wuertz still stand, or do I need to champion someone else's cause?
  15. How are we determining "minor league" player? At what games played, innings pitched, AB's in the majors would disqualify someone? If it takes only account of minor league numbers and there are no qualifications, I'll nominate Michael Wuertz.
  16. Dallas with a very nice showing sans TO against the Saints last night. The catch Glenn made over McKenzie in the end zone was spectacular!
  17. I'll join both before the first games.
  18. My guess is Duncan will follow the path of John Rodriguez. Speaking of that, someone should go to J-Rod's myspace page and ask how he's liking Memphis.
  19. Smells Like Tuna selects Kellen Winslow, TE
  20. He specifically made a jab directed at hardcore Cub fan teachers that "don't work during the summer and regularly travel 6 states to watch games at Wrigley". I'm not kidding...these were the exact words. What did you do to his oatmeal, Vance? Anyway, I agree. He's an idiot and to exacerbate this he does not put effort into the show. He's hurting for material currently, and pulled this POS discussion out of the trash. I have no problems with the media bashing the Cubs. I wish they would more often. However, putting money into the product is not the core problem. It's more related to a poor philosophy and execution. Other than not listen to his mindless drivel unless forced to do so because someone else is controling the radio, nothing. He's an idiot. Before anyone places any credence in his ramblins, keep in mind Mr. Cowherd once stated Jose Canseco should be in the HOF because, "No one in baseball is as famous as Canseco." He then went on to say that numbers shouldn't be the main criteria in determining who is in the HOF because fifty years from now, no one will care about what "numbers" a player has. The man is an idiot. How he's managed to keep a radio audience this long is beyond me. While most people might look to baseball reference or some other reputable source for facts, Cowherd pulls them out of his ass. While some might go to STATS Inc for baseball knowledge, Cowherd just looks into his bowels and retrieves them from his ass.
  21. If Cowherd said it then I know it must be false.
  22. I'm not sure there are any left on the open market.
  23. And this cacther has reported to class A Daytona. I think Barrett's contract might be up before this guy sniffs the major leagues.
