  1. Runs Created: Pujols- 150 Howard- 138 Win Shares: Pujols- 39 Howard- 31 OPS Pujols- 1.102 Howard- 1.084 Nope. The right guy didn't get. I'm no fan of Pujols, but I just get upset when the voters screw things up. They messed it up last year and once again this year.
  2. There's one big advantage to getting Dukes. He's a major league ready player who hasn't even begun his arbitration clock. I'd have no problem doing a Veal + Harvey deal for him. I might even toss in a major league reliever like Novoa.
  3. I'm only in favor of trading Jacque if it brings an upgrade, either in what we get in return for Jacque or in a player we sign or trade for to take his place. Right now, I don't see that happening, so we are likely better off keeping him.
  4. According to a Boston paper, the Angels are offering Gary Matthews Jr. a 5/55 contract. Link
  5. If we sign Lugo and do not bring in a CF, I'd just assume go with Jacque there. As maligned as he is, he'll likely outproduce Pie in 2007.
  6. FA wanna come to Chicago after the Soriano signing because they see Jim handing out the contracts like its Monopoly money. They want to be the next one in line to sign some "stupid-money" deal. Who can blame them?
  7. You mean no one suggested eat a donut??!?!?!
  8. Can he play CF? If so, he would be an interesting target. With the Rays posting for Iwamura, Cantu moves to first. With Crawford, Baldelli, Young, Gomes and likely Upton all looking for time in the OF, maybe they would deal Dukes. Even with his character issues, the kid can play. Could the Cubs pry him away using only minor leaguers if we included a high ceiling guy like Veal or Paweleck? It would be worth pursuing in my opinion.
  9. Another possibiliy would be to sign Lugo for SS and find a way to get Andruw Jones from the Braves. Getting Jones would be tricky as it would require meeting the Braves price and getting Jones to waive his no-trade clause.
  10. Muskat doesn't think the Cubs are after Schmidt. :( Link.
  11. Sign Lugo for SS. Put Soriano in CF. Make a trade for Kearns.
  12. Once the Mets sign Zito to a 10 year 190 million contract, they'll pass us for the lead again.
  13. For Astros, try http://www.orangewhoopass.com.
  14. I do know they're playing the Rangers in Texas.
  15. Pujols should have won and it shouldn't have been close.
  16. I bought mine a few years ago off Ebay.
  17. Glavine will either be a Met or a Brave. I don't think there's any chance he goes anywhere else.
  18. I would like to see Hendry look into Walker, but it won't happen. I'd also like to see Craig Wilson for the bench, but my guess is he's looking to start somewhere. Richard Hidalgo is tearing it up in winter league action last I checked. He'd make an interesting bench option.
  19. If the Cubs sign Schmidt, I'm not certain we'd even need to acquire another pitcher. Zambrano and Schmidt would top the rotation. That would be as good as any team's 1-2. Hill would be at number three. While there is some questions about him, he should do ok there. Furthermore, even if he's below what is normally expected of a 3, the ability of our 1-2 would cover for some deficiencies. For the fourth spot, Prior/Miller would be ok. If both are healthy and productive, the rotation is complete. If Prior returns to 2003-2004 form, then we have three aces with a decent four in Hill with Miller in the fifth spot. For the fifth spot, I'd use Marshall. The other arms of Marmol, Mateo, and Guzman create some depth if Marshall suffers injury or struggles. Schmidt makes the top so much better, the Cubs could afford more gambles in the lower half. If instead of Schmidt, we end up with Padilla or Meche or another second tier guy, a second pitcher would be needed because we wouldn't have the strength at the top.
  20. Ahhh, but did he really step aside because he's a great guy who just suddenly realized after years & years he wasn't getting the job done (as he wanted us to believe)? Or was it because the Trib needed to sell, and decided to start making some big acquisitions, and that's not in line with Mac's philosophy? I said this elsewhere. I think MacPhail's loyalty with Selig and the owners group that wanted teams to take a fiscally responsible approach affected the way money was alotted. MacPhail didn't want to hand out landmark contracts. He didn't want to appear as if he had upset the salary scale. Now, that he's gone, the purse strings are loosened.
  21. Imagine this line-up: RF Soriano 2b DeRosa 1b Lee LF Bonds 3b Ramirez CF Jones C Barrett SS Izturis =P~
  22. I think the spending has more to do with MacPhail no longer being around.
  23. If that happens, I'm gonna need a new pair of pants. I'm already on my second pair tonight. Vance and I are agreeing on way too much these days. If Jim lands Schmidt I might even be able to forgive the DeRosa signing. After the Soriano signing, agents will be lining up at Jim's table like strippers do at the drunk old man who is tipping Jacksons.
  24. I think the rash of spending has more to do with MacPhail being gone than anything else. MacPhail was part of the in group of baseball owners led by Selig that preached fiscal responsibility. MacPhail likely could have spent like this before but in the end his loyalty and friendship with Selig kept him from going into the statosphere in regards to contracts. With MacPhail out of the way, Hendry is left to do as he pleases.
  25. Reasoning? I'd like this line-up: Soriano RF Murton LF Griffey CF Lee 1b Ramirez 3b Barrett C Derosa 2b Izturis SS
