  1. I've pretty much stopped reading Perry. He doesn't have any insight that I consider fresh or interesting, he doesn't have any sources which make his information new, and he isn't able to write without allowing his biases to influence what he writes, so there's little reason to waste my time with him.
  2. According to the Fort-Worth Star Telegram, Norv Turner is the front-runner for the Dallas head coaching position. Link.

  4. There's lots of speculation that the Sox will try to get the Rockies to take back Lowell so that they can keep Youklis in the line-up by moving him back to third. But there's also speculation that the Rockies might want Youklis.
  5. Yes, the Trib owns WGN. As far as a sale and Cubs broadcasts on WGN, who knows? A lot depends on whether the Trib is sold together or as parts. Also, just because the Trib might retain ownership of both the Cubs and WGN doesn't mean they won't find it more profitable to sell the Cubs rights to other networks.
  6. wtf??? I was beyond wasted last night. 75 cent you call it at the bar I went to. Wolf, I would love to see you after a night at "Drinkin with Lincoln" at one of the local watering holes here.
  7. I'd rather have Weaver for one year than Marquis for three.
  8. wow! That would be one potent line-up. My guess is the Rockies would want one of the Red Sox young pitchers.
  9. The NY Post also weighs in. Link.
  10. Yep. That's it. I tried to find a really insightful sentence to quote, but one wasn't really there. He did a little research and decided it takes more than a good farm system to contribute to team success. Furthermore, he added that it appears that only about 2 out of three top prospects turn out to be decent major leaguers or something like that.
  11. If it's your first time, I'd join a public yahoo league with an online draft. You won't know the people that you're playing against, but it will get your feet wet. You may not have to check your team every day...some do, some don't. Just don't leave injured players in the line-up.
  12. I'll be getting one of those.
  13. This is a great article on Lee and what we can expect of him.
  14. Link.(Insiders Only) I found it interesting even if it is a bit cursory.
  15. After winning the previous year, I had high hopes last season. Like the Cubs, a Derrek Lee broken wrist ended any chance I had.
  16. It was made abundantly clear to me last weekend that all of those guys have options, so they aren't worried about the logjam. Are you sure? I thought Gooz was out of options. I think he was granted another option due to medical reasons. This is correct. Yes, it is correct. Fleita said so in the Down on the Farm session.
  17. You're making assumptions on what the person knows. Just because he has internet access doesn't make him knowledgeable about the Cubs or even baseball for that matter. Maybe he thinks it's possible for the Cubs to lose minor league players by some draft? Who knows what he has knowledge of? Was Peoria part of the Cubs system? Yes. Did Pujols play for Peoria? Yes. Why is that such a stupid question for a fan that may not know that much to ask? Because it's not as if he's asking if a player of the fame of say...JD Drew, or Vernon Wells was a Cub. He's asking about Albert Pujols. Perennial league MVP candidate. Best player in the NL, and a player who plays for the Cubs' principle rival. He's not an obscure name. He's a name the casual fan should know, and casual fans again would pay attention to media ripping the Cubs for not retaining the best player in the league. Again you assume what he knows and what he doesn't. Also, how do you know this media ripping of the Cubs would even be in his train of thought? Based on his question, I make no assumptions about his knowledge. His lack of knowledge, maybe.
  18. Looks like it's going to be a one year deal.' Link.
  19. Charges against Peavy have been dropped. Link.
  20. As of right now, all Comcast games are on EI. I'm not sure how the arrangement works though. That's not the question. I knew that. Did or could DirecTV customers in the Chicago area get Comcast Cub games on DirecTV? Will they still be able to if MLB EI goes exclusive on DirecTV? Shouldn't Comcast have a little say in that? Wouldn't that be sort of a conflict of interest? Yes, for Chicago area Comcast is part of the normal package. For all DirectTV customers, Comcast is part of the sports tier. Of course, if purchased on the sports tier, you do not get the games as they are blacked out unless you are an EI subscriber.
  21. As of right now, all Comcast games are on EI. I'm not sure how the arrangement works though.
  22. The casual fan should known that. Doesn't anyone think that if Pujols had been in the Cub system that Buck and McCarver would have reminded us of it ad nauseum. Furthermore, Joe Morgan would have shown us the graphic six times right before explaining what a shadow is and in between extolling the greatness of Davey Conception.
  23. Is that 100% accurate, though, Vance? DirecTV subscribers with MLB EI in San Diego will not get the Padres games. It's blacked out here on MLB EI. The only way to get Padres games in San Diego is through the cable company. Now, the Padres are different than most other teams, as they broadcast on a cable owned channel, Cox Cable. Most bars in San Diego are not able to broadcast the Padres games because they are DirecTV subscribers. It really hurts their business. Being fair, most bars cannot get regular cable service. I've heard the pricing to run cable to "businesses", and it's not cheap. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 20K just to run the lines. I can't answer for that unique situation with the Padres. I can see where the San Deigo market could be a huge issue. On the other hand, I'm fairly certain most teams in-market games are available on the standard direct-tv or cable.
