  1. I hope he returns because with Demp in the closer's role, we have a strong back of the bullpen. Dempster handles the ninth. Marmol and Howry can take the 7th and 8th. Ohman could be used for a tough lefty or a string of lefties. Wuertz can fill in when needed and take the sixth when a starter leaves early. Eyre can be used in mop up.
  2. I wouldn't waste time trying to get a reliever. We have three holes that could use filling: RF or CF; C; SS. I would focus on assisting those. The benefit from acquiring Rauch I don't think would be equal to the cost to get him.
  3. Andruw Jones triples in two runs and ties the game at 5.
  4. Speaking of outrageous claims, apparently the Braves inquired about Dimitri Young and Bowden asked for either Salty or Escobar.
  5. Kouzmanoff hits a sacfly to CF. Padres lead 5-3.
  6. Atlanta pitcher Jo Jo Reyes He's a player I wouldn't mind coming to the Cubs if we ever deal with Atlanta.
  7. Jo-Jo Reyes. And after another couple of hits, Cox lifts him from the game. Early bullpen action for both the Braves and Padres in this one.
  8. Jo-Jo gives up a 3-run bomb to Mike Cameron and the Padres lead 4-3.
  9. Jo-Jo in a little trouble in SD. Padres have two runners on with none out in the fourth.
  10. With the way Dye is hitting, he'd have to be awful cheap if I were to be in favor of getting him.
  11. I've seen this a lot lately. Here's a question I have... who has the best record since June 2nd, or June 1st? Obviously not the Cubs, otherwise they would just say that. Yeah. The Cubs lost on both June 1 & 2. However, June 3 is the day after Lou's eruption, so maybe that's what is special about the June 3 designation.
  12. Francoer hits a 2-run homer and then Wells is tossed for arguing balls and strikes. 3-1 Braves.
  13. Most catchers with a pulse would be upgrades. We could probably remove Jody Davis as manager of Daytona, call him up, and make him catcher; and there's a reasonable chance that he'd out produce the tandem we're using now.
  14. Salty doubles and is then driven home on a single by Escobar and the Padres and Braves stand tied at 1.
  15. Even though I let it drag out, I guess people missed that this thread was meant more as a commentary on how bad our catchers suck!
  16. Greene just homered for the Fathers and San Diego leads the Braves 1-0/
  17. I'd go for a bat, probably more than one. 1.Posada is my preference, but I think there's less than a 20% chance that he's traded. He's 10-5, so he'd have to approve any trade. I'd kick the tires on him, but I don't think it would happen. I think if he were available, he's a Hendry type of acquisition. I just don't think the situations needed to fall into place will happen quickly enough for Posada to hit the market. 2. If Posada isn't available, an upgrade at catcher is still needed. Ausmus is no great shakes, but he's better than what we have. Ramon Hernandez is also a possibility. 3. Griffey or Dunn would fix RF. Both are going to be expensive. 4. Lofton would help the anemic production in CF. While he may be costly to acquire now, I'm guessing his price drops considerably as the deadline approaches. We could likely get him for a mid-level prospect. 5. I just don't see starters coming cheaply enough to acquire. Buerle is out there, but not much else. At least not anyone that could be counted on to be any better than what we have. I think if I were the Cubs, I'd look to upgrade the offense by adding one big piece (Griffey/Dunn/Posada) and one complementary part (Ausmus/Lofton) rather than rolling the dice on another pitcher.
  18. Zambrano might make it after all. Apparently Fuentes is going to miss the game due to back injury. Link. Someone will have to replace him.
  19. It looks like Vick will not be named in court documents surrounding the dog fighting at the home in which he owns. Link.
