    Why would the Phillies do that deal? Rumor has it that they are really trying to dump Burrell. This gets him out of there and saves them some money. They may or may not do it, but sometimes to get rid of an onerous contract, you take back some onerous contracts. (See Hundley for Gruz/Karros)

    I'd make a play for Burrell. Contract dollars are rough estimates. He's owed roughly 20 million over the next two seasons. I'd offer Jacque Jones (7 million owed over next 2 years), Izturis (2.3 owed if option declined) and (5.5 owed over 2 years). That's 14.5 in bad contracts for 20 million in one bad contract. The Phillies could then either add another player to the deal or add some cash (approx 3-4 million) for next year. We could then platoon Floyd and Burrell for the remainder of the season. (Preferably moving Soriano to RF with Floyd/Burrell in left...but whatever they do would be ok.) The Cubs could then call up Cedeno to replace Izturis and add a decent bullpen arm in Eyre's spot.

    I'd guess Cory Bailey will be the guy to get a crack at starting though it'd be nice if the Cubs call up Mark Holliman or have Billy Petrick start. I wouldn't be surprised to see Holliman called up after the break to get a chance at starting in AAA.

    yeah i listened to them on XM and you would have thought being 9 games back of first at the ASB was all they could have dreamed of. They kept calling their starter "Sugar Shane" as well, it made me want to drive my car into a ditch. Sugar Shane has been his nickname for awhile....

    According to the Trib, it looks like we shouldn't expect Dempster back until the SF series. Link.

    And now it looks like Floyd is going to try a cortisone shot to help alleviate the pain. Link. It's possible Floyd could be placed on the DL when the second half begins.

    I doubt Burrell would be any worse in RF than Floyd. I understand the trepidation with Pat in RF. But we're already getting by with the immobile Floyd masquerading as a RF, so I think we could handle putting Pat or any other defensively challenged OF without missing a beat.

    Fox is only catching maybe once a week. They've been working him at the corners for nearly two months now. And yes, his defense behind the plate is less than spectacular.

    The best SEC team which I guess would have been Vandy, (even thou Miss State made it to the CWS) wouldnt play 400 ball in the Appy League, maybe the Arizona/Gcl league, the pitching staff are so weak after the 2nd game in 3 game series in the SEC or any college league for that matter. There was a joke hidden somewhere in my post.

    Well, they were having a luncheon but since Addison is going with me, I had to pass. That would've made a long day for her. I hope to get some before the game, though. The visiting team will have to walk right past where I'm sitting to go to their dugout.

    Same. But I'm biased because I hate bonds and love the prince. I really don't love Prince. But it came down to fathead vs fatass, and I went with the fatass.

    Since the SEC is equivalent to AA, why not go ahead and send Donaldson to Tennessee?

    Tomorrow, I'll be heading to Jackson, MS for the SL All-Star game. I'm pretty pumped up about it. We have seats on the first row in the last section down the thirdbase line. (Actually, I have a couple extras as my brother and nephew had to bail because my nephew is playing in an All-Star tourney.) I'm looking forward to seeing Fox and Holliman as well as some of the other top guys in the SL. (A little dissapointed that Upton and Longoria went to the Futures Game instead, but oh well.)
