  1. 9 pitch inning. Let's knock Wasdin out this inning.
  2. unfortunately for the purposes of this thread, he's neither an ace nor a big bat but he is an ass.
  3. Xavier Nady is hitting 292/343/509. His career line is 273/329/443. He can play both RF and CF. Would the Pirates be interested in trading him? I think he would make an interesting target.
  4. Ramirez gave it a ride, but not enough umph in that one.
  5. I wouldn't want to trade Pie in a rental deal. I'd trade him in a deal for a good player with more than a couple years left under team control.
  6. Especially since we had a catcher who could hit and gave him away for one that can't and a minor leaguer who can't hit too. And that we have another catcher that can hit wasting away in AAA. Zips' projection for Soto last year was.......... Name P AVG OBP SLG G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB K SB CS Soto c .236 .312 .334 98 305 35 72 12 0 6 33 33 84 1 1 ....... and his actual line was.......... 04/03 - 10/01 AB R H 2B 3B HR TB RBI BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS Soto 25 1 5 1 0 0 6 2 0 5 0.200 0.231 0.240 0.471 Let's don't go overboard, eh? Still better than Bowen/Hill, no?

  8. Looks like SD is pulling away from the Braves today.
  9. 214/271/402 That's Dye's numbers for this year. He's probably not that bad. 315/385/622 That's his numbers last season. He's not that good. Call 2006 a fluke season. 172/261/253- 03 265/329/464- 04 274/333/512- 05 Assuming 2006 was a fluke, and looking at the three seasons prior to that one, Dye is an average, but not great hitter. Given that he's gotten older, the best we could hope from Dye is probably 260/320/450. I think we could get the same production from Murton if we called him back up. I just don't think Dye is the answer. If Kenny wants to trade him for Ryan Harvey or Brian Dopirak or Matt Craig or Gary Cates or someone like that, sure. But if he's asking for anyone worth a damn, we'd probably do better to acquire Ausmus to upgrade the catching position or go after Kenny Lofton to improve our production in CF.
  10. Trading for a reliever seems interests me because I think it's easier to obtain a solid reliever than a significant upgrade in any of the positions you listed. It's still going to cost prospects to get that reliever. We have too few bullets to use in pulling off a trade. I'd rather save them for players we really need. I don't see Rauch as that much of an upgrade over the players we've been using in the same role. Our bullpen has been much better since June and I don't see it as the major weakness of this team. Having major holes at CF/RF, C, and SS is a much bigger problem. If we can get bullpen help in a deal that includes one of the above, great. But I wouldn't focus much energy at all trying to retool the bullpen. It's wasted resources.
  11. An errant throw pulls Renteria off the bag, and the Padres score a run on a FC to take a one run lead. Bases are still loaded with only one out.
