  1. Beane will likely ask for Votto or Cuetto.
  2. Awesome, the watch the games argument again. I always love it when people assume that others don't watch the games.
  3. But Gallagher and Murton have value. To me, that's a fair deal. If they feel they need another player, fine, but it shouldn't be Veal or Cedeno. Veal still has a decent ceiling, and I would object to his being the fourth player. I'd live with Gallagher, Murton, and Cedeno. Adding Veal makes the deal too much in my opinion.
  4. Giving up Gallagher, Cedeno, Murton, and Veal for Roberts would be worse than the Pierre trade. That's ridiculous. If that's what the Orioles want, back away from the table.
  5. No surprises for LSU. We didn't pick up anything, but all of our commits submitted LOI's. Looks like we're guaranteed a top 15 class, top five according to Scout.com, but I don't trust them. Rivals has us at 11.
  6. It's called a prediction. Id like to hear you basis for this prediction, cause the Astros rotation is horrible outside of Oswalt. Let's see, they have one of the most potent offenses in the NL (Berkman, Lee, Pence, Tejada) along with Oswalt and decent starters behind him (Backe, Wandy, Williams and Sampson). Their rotation was killed by injuries last season and these starters are all coming in healthy. That rotation after Oswalt is not decent, unless your idea of decent is below average. Backe has a career ERA+ of 93, is coming off TJS, and has only made 13 starts over the past two seasons. To expect him to come back in 2008 and pitch at his career highs isn't likely. Wandy is nothing special either. He had his best season last year and still only posted an ERA+ of 96. His career ERA+ is 84. Sampson also is just blah. Woody Williams may have been good a few years ago, He'll be 41 next season and last season he posted an ERA+ of 83. Unless he finds some of Roger's HGH stash left behind at MMP, you can expect that number to get worse this year. In addtion, there is no depth behind these guys. The players in the minors who would have been most likely to step up if one of the four falters or gets injured have all been traded. The Astros don't really have anyone in the system that could be looked to in the case of injury, unless you count Runelvys Hernandez. So, while the Astros have a decent offense, their pitching is more like Oswalt and pray for four days of rain.
  7. LSU is likely to have a top ten class, but not a top five class. I'm a little dissapointed, but we've gotten some good players who will help on defense. I still think the team will be set up nicely.
  8. I bet the Yankees would have some interest in Sheets if he were placed on the market.
  9. For some it maybe possible, for others it's not. I've always been a Cubs fan, but when I lived in the DFW area I'd go watch the Rangers about 20 times a year. I always remained a Cubs fan, but I started rooting for the Rangers. I still want them to win, but I don't have the attachment to them that I do for the Cubs. I don't think you can just make a conscious effort to switch teams. You might say it's so, but I'm not sure your emotions will follow so easily. If I were you, I wouldn't make a "formal" switching. But if you're living in Chicago, go to the games. Root for them to win. If the attachment happens, then so be it. If not, nothing lost.
  10. What's Reggie Sanders health like? If Murton is traded, Sanders might be a decent option for the bench. If Piazza can handle a few games behind the dish every so often, he'd make a decent idea for a back-up catcher and pinch hitter.
  11. LSU's class isn't looking as strong as I had hoped. It's still likely a top ten class, so we shouldn't see a lot of drop off. Still, I would have liked it to have been top five.
  12. How about this one... http://media.scout.com/media/forums/emoticons/112/smack.gif or this one http://media.scout.com/media/forums/emoticons/112/stirpot.gif or this one... http://media.scout.com/media/forums/emoticons/112/piss.gif http://media.scout.com/media/forums/emoticons/112/drinkmuch.gif http://media.scout.com/media/forums/emoticons/112/stfu.gif
  13. My list likely inclueds all of these Greg Maddux Frank Thomas Sammy Sosa Barry Bonds Chipper Jones Tom Glavine Trevor Hoffman Randy Johnson Manny Ramirez Ken Griffey Jr. Alex Rodriguez Pudge Rodriguez Mike Piazza Mariano Rivera Derek Jeter Pedro Martinez All of those should be locks. I understand that due to the steroid issue, players like Bonds and Sosa might be left out. But, I think that entire list looks to be HOF quality to me.
  14. To me, the jury is still out on Eli. He may be turning the corner on becoming a good QB. Or he could be among the long line of QB's that happen to win Super Bowls without being anything great. Eli's numbers in the Super Bowl: 19/34 255yds 2 TD 1 INT. Brad Johnson's numbers in his Super Bowl victory were very similar: 18/34 215yds 2 TD 1 INT. Johnson isn't a bad QB, but he wasn't anything great either. Eli is going to have to prove that this was a maturation in his game. It will make him some more cash, certainly. It may even be a turning point. Next season will tell if it is.
  15. I heard rumors that if he couldn't latch on with a West Coast team, he was going to retire. I'd take him as a fourth outfielder though.
  16. What's funny, whether they have 2, 3 or even a whole team of catchers, the Reds still won't finish higher than third in the NL Central.
  17. The only way to make money off the starting nine would have been someone who intended to go to the April-May games on the package and then sell the premium dates on there, like the White Sox game. Anyone who wanted to do the reverse, will probably lose a little money on the gambit.
  18. RFK Busch II Three Rivers Riverfront Veteran's Astrodome. Shea, in '09 Atlanta-Fulton County I would throw New Comiskey/Cell in the "cookie-cutter parks that are still alive and kicking" category. The old Arlington Stadium would have been of the cookie-cutter variety.
