  1. So the smart money would be on Hill being exposed to waivers some time before the season starts. I would have to think so. If I were placing odds, I'd say 50% that Hill is exposed to waivers, 35% that he gets a spot in the bullpen, and 15% that he wins a spot in the rotation.
  2. My guess is that the Cubs don't have any interest. Jim probably sees Dunn as a LF only and since we're looking for a RF, Dunn isn't on the list. I heard or read that Washington would make a play for Dunn. But I really haven't seen anything about Dunn anywhere recently.
  3. Chad is just a source for the writer at TCR, but yes, GaborBako is Dolan.
  4. LSU finally wakes up and takes the lead.
  5. Paul Sullivan writes that the Cubs offer was never taken seriously by the Padres. Link. Yeah, I know it's Sullivan, so take it for what it's worth. The saga continues...
  6. What about this one? http://blogs.dailyillini.com/sports/files/2007/11/blog_jakepeavy2_jb.jpg
  7. What if we combined walrus pics with the latest infor about Peavy....like... Modzilla Edit: HOW ABOUT NO? Ken Rosenthal is reporting the Yankees have had numerous talks with the Padres about Peavy. Link.
  8. This quote came after Thrusday Towers saying that it will take a third team does debunk the rumor that the deal would be Marshall, Pie and Theriot a was reported on Desipio. That doesn't mean the source was wrong or that it was false reporting, it just means that things have changed since then, and as of now, Towers wants more than that for Peavy.
  9. Then, I'm guessing the source is Doug Dascenzo.
  10. How do you know the source isn't Andy Dolan? Because it's not. Hi, Andy.
  11. That would be the only way he makes the team, in my opinion. Unless he has a stellar spring, I don't see Hill making the rotation. I think it will be further complicated when Hendry adds another arm or two to what will be the starting five. Unless we are beset by injuries and Hill shows a phenomenal turn around this spring, he will either be the second loogy, or he'll be exposed to waivers. While the title of this thread is likely an overstatement, to say Hill is done with the Cubs due to his lack of options may not be far from the truth.
  12. Having to get a third team involved does complicate things.
  13. I really wonder what the Cubs offer is. And I'm hearing some rumblings out of Atlanta that the Braves offer was actually lower than reported and it was simply a two player offer rather than the three or four that had been reported. I guess we'll never know for sure. I really wonder what the Padres expect to get from Peavy considering the limited nature of the market. There's also a glut of starting pitching on the FA market which likely affects what teams will offer for Peavy, at least for now. Once some of that dries up, teams like the Cubs and Braves may be willing to increase their offers. I don't know.
  14. If we had to open the season with what we have, we'd have a rotation of Zambrano, Harden, Lilly, Marquis, and Marshall. We'd have a possibility of Gaudin, Samardzjia, and maybe Atkins as options to fill in.Hill could be in that mix too, but unless he gets it straightened out, he's going to be exposed to waivers at the end of the spring, and some club like the Nationals or such is likely to claim him. It's clear we need to add at least one more arm, and preferably two. Johnson would be a decent option. He's not what he once was and he's likely to miss some time for injury, but he's good enough to be a 3-5 type guy that gives the rotation some depth. The past few years, it's been clear that Hendry likes to add depth to the rotation. I think this is partially why Jim told Wood to look for better offers elsewhere. In his view, there is a need to focus on the rotation rather than the pen.
  15. As I said earlier, there's no way the Cubs don't offer arbitration to get the draft picks. So, if Wood really wants to play on a one-year deal and walk away from 3 and 4 year offers from other teams, he'll accept the Cubs offer of arbitration and work out a contract from there.
  16. Yeah, but we also got Bo Flowers along with Novoa.
  17. The Cubs likely will still offer Wood arbitration. If Kerry really prefers to stay with the Cubs on a one-year deal, he can accept the offer of arbitration and not sign with anyone else.
  18. The Mavs have been a disappointment so far...but GO MAVS!
  19. Emotionally, I don't like the move. Wood was one of my favorite Cubs. Realistically, the move makes sense. Wood will get a lot of dollars for a number of years from some team. Likely, more than a few teams would pay him well for longer than we would want to pay. It's going to be tough getting used to the idea of Wood not being on the Cubs. And if he signs a 2 year deal somewhere, I will become majorly pissed. My guess is he'll get a four year deal, and I can really understand why Hendry would not go that long.
  20. Yes...if true, this source would know what he was talking about. HE? You just cut the number of potential sources in half you fool. Or its an inherant sexual bias... Raisin's sexist? I'm telling his girlfriend on him! Raisin has a girlfriend??!?!
  21. If Hendry has said Wood is done in Chicago, it's likely because of his contract demands. It wouldn't surprise me to see the Cubs and Wood part ways. Kerry may be seeing a 3-5 year deal. I can see why the Cubs would be reluctant to give that to him. I'd love to see Wood remain a part of the Cubs, but not at any cost. It has to be reasonable.
  22. According to the New York Post (yeah, I know grain of salt, yada yada yada), the Yankees are prepared to blow away Sabathia with a huge free agent offer likely in the 6 years 150 million range. Link
