Based on what we know, the Braves are out. The Cubs are the only team left on Peavy's list that still is trying to get him. So, a couple of things could happen. The Padres go back to Peavy and tell him that either needs to expand his list or prepare to remain a Padre. Now, if the Padres do this, Peavy could call their bluff and refuse to expand his list of teams. Then I guess what Towers does would depend on how strong the mandate to move Peavy is. If he has to move him, he'll either take the Cubs deal or call the Braves back and see if they are still willing to deal. Peavy could expand his list which would open things up to a few other teams. The Padres could also wait until the FA market shakes out and hope the Cubs and Braves get outbid by other teams for the free agents they seek and get desperate to go. Of course, that could backfire if both the Cubs and Braves are able to sign other players.
