  1. Hi Mr. Dunn and Thank you for answering our questions, The last couple of players that were called up to the Cubs have come from AA which is a credit to the program in West Tenn. Do you think it is easier for a pitcher or a position player to make the jump over AAA? Also, What are you thoughts on Bobby Brownlie? Many of us had high hopes for him and last year under your mentorship he had a pretty good year. This year he seemed to have a rough start and been moved to the bullpen.
  2. Why? He won us one game. How many games has he cost us over the last month and a half or so with his horrible play. Add to that the fact that Cedeno is wasting development time while he sits on the bench and gets to pinch hit every couple of weeks. It may be Dusty's fault but it still completely unacceptable.. How many has he cost the Cubs over the last month and a half? Neifi's defense has remained outstanding this year regardless of his contribution with his bat and he plays a position where defense is highly valued. He is not the greatest hitter by any means, but he is a backup SS.
  3. and what's funny about that is his swing reminds me of Larry Bowa's in his Cub days. it's about as week as it gets. Neifi needs to realize that his team would be much better off if he never took the bat off his shoulder and wore 100 lb. boots so he's not so adept at getting out of the way of the inside pitch. the one pitch he can hit as a lefty he's bailing out on 95% of the time. it drives me nuts. and some how he has a knack to GIDP when a strikeout would have been better and K or pop up when a GIDP ball would have been fine. Neifi is second to bottom of all ML batting title qualified players in BB/PA. Pudge is worst (anyone really think not signing him was a mistake?). he's behind Corey, Jose Reyes, and Alfonso Soriano. he's nearly doubled his career total in HBP this year with 3. his P/PA is 5th lowest in all of baseball. He's allegedly fast, but is tied for 13th in GIDP when most of his ABs have come after the pitchers spot or Corey (the only middle infielder ahead of him is Renterria batting behind Damon's .400+ OBP). last winter alot of people mentioned how, by some measures, Neifi is the worst hitter in 50 years or something like that. I was skeptical, but Neifi's made a believer out of me. I want to understand your statement better. Are you saying that based upon Neifi's BB/PA ratio and Flyball ratio that he is the worst hitter in 50 years? If that is what your saying, that is an utterly ridiculous statement. I could name quite a few players off the top of my head that are vastly inferior to Neifi in the hitting department. Sure Neifi is not the best hitter in baseball, but if you put certain numbers like BA/OBP up against Patterson, you will find that career wise Patterson has a worse BA and OBP than Neifi. He is a backup SS hitting .260 something this year, not sure I understand all of the negativity directed toward him. #-o
  4. If Hairston were really traded, don't you think the news would have leaked by now?
  5. The Cubs would still have Macias who could play CF and leadoff. :pukel:
  6. You should change the title of your post. It makes it sound like he got traded.
  7. So the Cubs can keep him as long as they want, without another team being able to claim him or sign him? #-o
  8. Team record by starting left fielder W L pct 1. Hollandsworth 23 31 0.426 2. Dubois 20 15 0.571 3. Grieve 1 0 1.000 4. Murton 4 2 0.667 Totals 48 48 0.500 Thank ya sir! My suspicions have been confirmed - the Cubs, with Holly starting, have a worse record than we he doesn't start. If only Dusty would have started Grieve more, the Cubs would have a perfect record. :D
  9. Dusty-logic tells me that Murton or Cedeno won't get a start with this being a Nationally televised game and all.
  10. I was hoping to see Bruce lurking since maybe he would have caught something of it and told us, but I haven't seen anything yet. From the replay on my dvr, it looked as if Aram was ticked about where Hollandsworth threw the ball on Mabry's 3B. It seemed as if Aramis was gesturing to Todd that he should have thrown to the cutoff man or in any case a different direction. Holla tried to walk away and Aramis grabbed his arm (lightly, to be sure) and started back in on him. After that Perez whipped a bat and WGN cut to commercial. Maybe the heat got to them; maybe the emotions of blowing a game that was completely winnable did. But either way, it's something to watch for. Interesting. While I can understand Aramis' reaction to Todd, someone should remind Aramis that maybe a little more hustling wouldn't hurt either. The fact that Todd Hollandsworth is even playing on a regular basis is a joke. He may be one of the worst everyday LF in baseball.
  11. Pierre RISP - .203 / .301 / .304 / .605 SP2O - .143 / .236 / .265 / .501 OB2O - .194 / .260 / .284 / .544 Cl&L - .196 / .255 / .255 / .510 Hairston RISP - .292 / .382 / .417 / .799 SP2O - .269 / .321 / .308 / .629 OB2O - .216 / .256 / .270 / .526 Cl&L - .258 / .361 / .452 / .813 (Runners in scoring position, scoring position 2 out, men on 2 out, close and late) quote] Yes, the old Runners in Scoring Position. Very, Very important for a leadoff hitter. :^o #-o
  12. Other people posted stats in the first Pierre discussion, some people just chose to ignore them because it hurt their argument that "Pierre sucked". I posted stats that supported my argument of "Pierre won't be worth the cost". We disagreed. However, the argument was a bit more nuanced that "Pierre sucks". It was more like "Hairston has nearly as many walks in 1000 fewer AB's". But thanks for lumping everything together. Thanks for pointing out the only category that Hairston may be better than Pierre in. You didn't point out that Hairston's K/BB is worse than Pierre's or that Hairston's career OBP is considerably lower, but then again this was argued ad naseum in the other thread.

  14. Do you think Hairston's trade value is enough to get Pierre? Seems like you would have to get rid of a pretty good pitching prospect.
  15. So is this trade going to happen after tonight's game or what? :D
  16. All these attempts at character assassination... tsk tsk. I'm not starting any rumors - I just posted the facts. There's the Miles info and the McCoy info and they conflict. It'll all come out in the wash.... The Reds radio broadcast and Miles gave the same info, and that still is not enough? Columbus and ZZ give differing accounts. If I've kept it straight, Columbus on TV heard Hendry talk with Brenneman with Hendry saying the price was too steep for the Cubs. ZZ heard on the radio the converse, saying the price was too steep for the Reds. I think I've followed that, basically a bunch of misinformation and he said she said, nothing out of the ordinary given baseball trade talk near the deadline, especially with Hendry. Columbus heard it on the radio along with his wife and was sure that they said the Cubs said the price was too steep. This is lock step with what Bruce Miles said. I don't see where the differnce is?
  17. Just to recap... McCoy said it was not straight up Dunn for Hill, but Dunn for Hill, CP and Mitre. Maybe both were offered. The nature of news is fluid and ever-changing after all. They are both saying the same thing, except Bruce Miles put it more straight forward. If they wouldn't trade Hill for Dunn straight up there is no way they would add players to the deal. It is the same thing, just put two different ways.

  19. I think if Bruce Miles was uncertain, he wouldn't have said anything. Unlike many members of the media, Miles is a straight shooter. I'd trust him above most other sources. If Bruce says we wouldn't give Hill for Dunn, as outrageous as I believe that to be, I trust him. Secondly, I don't think Sweetemotion can reply any longer. My guess is sweetemotion read through some of the Dunn speculation and used enough facts to create a realistic rumor. Maybe he's more credible than that, but I doubt it. And to think that Breneman wouldn't ask Hendry about an internet rumor isn't true either. Media guys often check out message boards to see what is being discussed. If this one is making the message board rounds, then it's likely Marty would mention it. As much as I wish this one were true, I'm going to take Miles's word that nothing is immenent. I agree, Bruce Miles is as about as reliable as they come.
  20. I gotta agree. I don't think the Cubs value Hill that much. There is no way Hendry would trade a pitcher like Hill to a division foe, for merely Adam Dunn.
  21. Yep, about 15 pages ago... To save you the time, CUBZ99, of looking for it, I'll summarize: He didn't see it happening. Thanks :D
  22. If it's not a done deal yet there's no reason to pull him from his start. Honestly, if this deal happens I don't see it being announced until Thursday after the series is over so Hill starting tonight means nothing. If they pull Hill from his start tonight and trade him tonight maybe he can start tomorrow night and dominate the Cubs.
  23. How much longer do the Cubs have to hide him in the minors?
