  1. You think he's been given a free pass? From every article I've read about future HOFers, he's always been listed with McGuire and Palmiero as people who have the steroids scandal looming over them. In fact, I'm convinced that he'll receive the same level of media attention when his chance at the HOF comes up as McGuire did, and his testimony to Congress (or lack thereof) will receive the same spotlight. True, but what opinion will they have if Sammy does hit 40/50 homeruns for the next two years? Do their opinions change?
  2. I am sure they were pcking up a few bucks with a tan, to get those three sigs on a baseball would be dynomite
  3. Wow this is a close one
  4. can I edit the poll once taken? I believe it will be inevitable
  5. Other than preference do to home country is there a more desirable league to play in to considering quality of pitching/hitting? Do the Cubs recommend teams or leagues? I remember someone mentioned that Venezuelan league was best for middle infielders (I may have been mistaken) Can someone shed some light on this? good article for research if youi have the time.
  6. http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3342489,00.html A passing thought or reality. Isreal is definetly feeling threatend and we know when they feel threatend they will strike and strike hard. Isreal did this once in the middle-east, will they bomb the Iranian nuclear facilities? Understanding middle eastern history and Isreals I suspect they will.
  7. If you saw the news today you might have seen Rosie O'Donnel and Donald Trump go off on each other on the matter of Miss USA and Trumps finances. It was very entertaining esp. with the depressing news these days out of Iraq. Though the planet would be a better place without both of them. http://www.usatoday.com/life/people/2006-12-21-rosie-donald_x.htm
  8. My hope is that Hendry fails to acquire a LH compliment to Murton. That would make it much more likely that he'd hit in the #2 spot in the order as Lou would probably like a non-platoon player in that spot. where is Matt anywhere on his radar screen. I see Lou as overlooking Murton. I hope you are right
  9. No, actually I'm not nauseated by it. I would be if I didn't think they're legit. But I do. That was a huge road win Sunday. NO is definitely a legitimate contender. it was almost as if they had to discuss it out of the guilt from Katrina
  10. Did anybody else get tired of hearing about New Orleans Saints win and how hot they are. What a stupid PC discussion. Let's make them feel good because of Katrina.
  11. thank you, well said
  12. The only thing I'm trying to crown him is Angel Guzman. I've never mentioned any comparison between him and Kerry Wood in my entire life. Guzman was fully healthy last year, which is what is giving us hope for 2007. now Tim I never said you did, I just remember how excited all of us were about our Wunderkind Kerry and Corey Pat. this has tainted me on declaring any of these guys super-kid until he has spent three successful years in the majors with out injuries. Guzman has not come close to this.
  13. ding ding ding we have a winner. the point is the Guzman is coming off three years of injury and all so many of you want to crown him the next Kerry wood. We all know what happens if you are crowned the next Kerry Wood, disapointment abounds
  14. marshal- Intellegent, strong great curve ball marmol- He is just wild thing incarnate. He has raw talent that looks like Dantrell's Guzman-Well all of you think he is great and i remember this conversation with Wood and his greatness/injuries. the guy is tainted in my book. But for some reason the cubs love that sort of guy
  15. You got to be kidding me 40 mill for these stats http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/team/player.jsp?player_id=150404 He is lucky that this years market is over-priced and hendry and the cubs are willing to waste money. common he is 2 games above .500 and we are incredibly excited and a career era of 4.66. I thought at the begining of the FA season we would see Schmidt go for that much, oh wait he almost did.
  16. My exact sentiments. Unfortunately how much money did he get out of this organization? enough to never sell insurance or used cars. that's for sure, and I bet more than a teacher
  17. As far as the topic goes it is a resounding NO!! You pointed out his faults as well as his low OBP, is this not what we would like to seen brought to this team? Not a free swinger
  18. My exact sentiments. Unfortunately how much money did he get out of this organization?
  19. Once again: That game should never have been that close. Ohio State thoroughly dominated the game, and if not for Troy Smith fumbling a snap and Doug Datish completely botching another, Ohio State wins the game by 13 or 17 and we're not even having this discussion. but they did, so it was that close. As they say, if the Queen had balls... The point is, it's not like Michigan played well enough to force a rematch. OSU just played imperfectly enough to keep the game close. So where does USC look so great that they deserve #2? Their conference was weaker this year
  20. ok that sounds really bad My students were behind me when I clicked and they roared with laughter
  21. It should be Ohio State and Michigan comon losing to OSU by three in Columbus drops you. Listen to what frank Duford says about it in his commentary on NPR. I definetly agree. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=6553638
  22. Jerry did build a winner in Phoenix (suns)with the suns and did motivate the city to revitalize the downtown area.
  23. That would only be a foolish move if he were guaranteed to have another year like last year. And he's not. I tend to agree. Sometimes I sense an assumption that contracts will continue to increase each offseason, but that hasn't been the case historically. If I were V Wells, I'd at least negotiate. Wells certainly should negotiate. He's coming off a great season and IMO this is a bubble year for MLB salaries. I simply cannot believe that contracts like 5/50 for Gary Matthews jr. represent a sustainable market situation. I would advise ANY player who had a great 2006 to test this market ASAP. I was shocked with the Mathews signing, I'll bet purse strings close real fast next year
  24. I remember just a short time ago the same accolades for Dusty. I'll hold off until the ring ceremony
