  1. That's what a callup for an injured player is, a kick the tires situation. I don't think people are guaranteeing superstardom, rather they are expressing excitement to see a very talented player on the team. I hear the under-tone of "boy, hell come up and show himself as a wunderkind and be starting cf by the end of the month" I remember Bobby Hill and the excitement generated by his call up. I hope everyone is right and he is a great hitter and fielder.
  2. This guy has not played any games at the major league level for any determinable length of time and he is the next superstar?? before jumping on his band-wagon I think I want to kick the tires first.
  3. darn, this doesn't bo well for Murton, Pie hasn't shown enough maturity yet.
  4. Just heard vynle sales ar edramatically up
  5. How about just playing Murton? game thread though
  6. Doc Yokum: that's too bad to hear, but the good news I stayed at a Holiday Inn express and my wife is looking forward to starting that new dream home in Aspen. You two are my best pantient :D Any word on how he's doing? Supposedly he is also going to be examined by the Dr's today along with Prior according to WSCR. Wood: "Hi Mark, how's it goin'? Here for your checkup too? Prior: "Yep yep. Hey, you hear the temperature in Chicago is below freezing?" Wood: "Yeah. Terrible. Glad we live in Arizona, huh?" Prior: "Hahaha. You got that right." ***Doctor walks in*** Doctor: "Hi there! So, how we feelin' today? Gettin' ready to wrap her up and head for Chicago?" Wood: "Dunno doc, she's feelin' a little stiff right now." Prior: "Me too. Just can't seem to loosen it up."
  7. Agree, but obviously he isn't a Kerry Wood
  8. *L* took the words right out of my mouth, thought of Dusty right away I'm kind of sad that he didn't say something about how many black and Latin American hitters there are on the roster, and how they weren't bred to play in this type of weather.
  9. I'm perfectly fine with him at lead off. And I probably won't be changing my mind on that anytime soon. How long would it take you then to change your mind? Just curious
  10. I want to know if there is anybody else in the world besides my family who has never watched American Idol? Nor do I want to.
  11. I think we then agree that he should not be a lead-off hitter put him as a #5
  12. why I advocate a manditory rookie salary cap.
  13. If you win the lottery we could take it down and put it on black 21 on the roullette table
  14. see the problem there was the bases were clogged up... Ya, and think if he would have walked they would have still been clogged
  15. Zambrano was terrible last year opening day. I remember becuase the guys here ribbed me about it
  16. is HD really that big of a difference? I could understand not wathcing b/c it was the cards and indians....but not b/c it wasn't HD I find it difficult to watch anything that isn't HD now. I'll still watch my favorite teams in non-HD, but it's a real struggle. Once you go HD, it's all that matters. You mean black and white is now in HD!!! Groovy
  17. You're right - so does that make Ronnie our backup-backup middle infielder?? In what situtation do you see him playing?? It's generally a good idea to have 2. I'd imagine it's a better idea to carry an extra outfielder than an extra middle infielder. Most of the playing time that player is going to get is going to be pinch hitting, so it's probably a good idea to have a better hitter. Perhaps, but if you count Floyd, Theriot and Ward, the Cubs already have three guys on their bench that can play the outfield. When you factor in that DeRosa can, and likely will, move there to platoon with Jones against some lefties, the Cubs pretty much have the OF covered. If they went with Pagan, then Theriot would be the only infielder on the bench and DeRosa couldn't platoon with Jones. Cedeno or some other middle infielder who is better is the way to go. I would love to see Cedeno in AAA because I think he has figured some things out and could really thrive in Iowa this season. Cedeno putting up great numbers for a full season in AAA will give the Cubs the confidence to let Izturis go at the end of the season. Despite his rookie season, I still think Cedeno can be a good major league SS. He's still young enough. Can I amend your statement? two of three can play outfield, the book is still out of Floyd if he can actually cath a ball on the run, on a sunny day
  18. what a way to get one though. We should bnever not signed him, she was worth at least 10 million just sitting in our stands
  19. Agreed, then it would have been funny
  20. That's ok, sometimes I don't either. There is a kid name Colt, he is a high school senior from Memphis, TX this year he is working on six straight no hitters. He has a nasty curve and a low 90's fast ball. A friend who is a fully certified NCAA ump has witnessed his pitching and is duly impressed
  21. He is not a scout but a certified NCAA Umpire and a National federation umpire. Has umpired OSU and Texas games as well as Texas Tech and WT Universary. He has seen plenty of good pitcher and this kid impresses him, he says the only thing more impressive than this kid this year is the ASU softball girls
  22. A local kid from Memphis, Texas just missed his 6th No hitter but failed to reach it because of a rain-out the national record is only 6 by a high schooler. My teachers aid is an HS ump and says this kid has what it takes with a low 90's fast bal and a wicked knee breaking curve. A senior this year.
