  1. They said they would take a 10 minute break after round 4. Should start back up in a minute.
  2. there's more than a couple from '88 in there. I'm in a weird "feeling old" age. I'm not yet old enough to be president, but I'm older than most pro atheletes Mine hit when i bought my Onyewu World Cup jersey and then realized he is younger than I am. Also when one of the undergrads in my lab called me Uncle Seth Same for me - guys like Ben Gordon and Luol Deng are younger than me. And Cedric Benson is 4 days older than me. Of course, I"m still just 23. *feversihly goes to find out CR's birthday* Remember, I'm a hot softball player now, not a raisin. Stop stalking me! Might be a good idea to hire a body guard. :newugh:
  3. I could see us trading for Abreu in a 3-way trade with Florida with Pie on his way to Florida. I'd absolutely love a trade for Cabrera, but there are other teams out there who could offer much more than we can.
  4. Nate just told me he's never heard of you. Has anyone else formed a mental picture that Is_Pedro_There looks like Earl? yes Absolutely. Also NCCF is a red alien. I'm convinced. does that make me a can of shoe polish? Rumors that I'm shaped like a can of beer are cruel and totally off base. A keg? Maybe, but a can of beer definitly not! Does this mean you guys think I'm Cedric Bozeman based on my avatar? No. I think most of us picture you as a little, wrinkled, purple dude with big sunglasses.
  5. Fits right in with this organization. He's another toolsy athlete who likes to be aggressive.
  6. Dude better turn out to be the next Beltran.
  7. A college kid who BA said should probably go in the 3rd round. Of course we pick him with our only pick until the 5th round at #13. Stupid Cobs.
  8. Anyone else feel like all the other GM's are laughing their heads off right now with our 13th pick? Only the Cobs would pick someone who was ranked 170th by BA with the 13th pick.
  9. Nic Jackson is up to a .331 AVG and .381 OBP with a .832 OPS. Hope he keeps it up and can stay healthy.
  10. A .317 OBP is absolutely terrible. Jacque is doing just as much, if not more, than should have been expected out of him. Currently he's on pace to post his highest BA since 2003, his highest SLG since 2002 and his highest OPS since 2002. Like srbin84 brought up, if he ends up with the 31 HR, and 95 RBI's he's on pace to put up, both of those will be career highs. You want to complain about OBP, complain about Ronny Cedeno who is walking even less that Jones this year and isn't even close to Jones in the power numbers. There are bigger fish to fry here goony. Ronny Cedeno makes the minimum and is playing a position where offensive success is a bonus. Jones is making $15M over 3 years and plays a position where above average offense is essential. His long term presence hamstrings us in any attempts to upgrade the offense because he takes up a position where helpful talent is much more readily available. Cedeno needs to be held accountable, for sure, but not so much as Jones does, as the Cubs have much more to lose if Jones tanks than if Cedeno does. We were discussing OBP not salaries. Goony criticized Jones's OBP and I stated that Ronny was worse. That's all. Why the need to bring up salary? I don't know what MLB you are watching, but shortstops are expected to contribute more than they used to. I'm not saying that all shortstops need to put up Tejada numbers but Ronny isn't doing anything at the plate. Right now Ronny is ranked 13th out of 26 MLB SS with a .733 OPS, ahead of players like Jose Reyes, Rafael Furcal, Bobby Crosby, and Jimmy Rollins. He could definitely learn to take a walk more, but in his first full season in the majors he's doing a very decent job. I'd say he's doing better than you're giving him credit for.
  11. Haha. Izzy blew the save. Reds beating the Cards 8-7 now. :D
  12. RBI single for Brandon Phillips that scores Kearns. 6-5 now. Cards winning in the 8th.
  13. Should have been pulled as soon as the no-no was over. Another stupid call by Dusty. You have got to be kidding me. I want to see anyone anywhere try and pull Z out of the game right there. Bazooka Carlos would have been literal. So let me get this straight. Its ok to leave him in with 115 and a no, no but you should take him out 10 pitches later after he loses it just because it was a blowout? Thats silly logic. Z was all over the place that inning. You could see that he was starting to fatigue. And then he lost the no-no and you could see he was trying to throw harder. There's a good chance Z could hurt himself in that situation. If it's me I pull him as soon as he loses the no-no. I don't care how mad he gets at me.
  14. That's disgusting. If it is Prior's first game back after his rehab, and he is at 140 pitches through 7, with a no-no. You keep marching his ass out there. You never take that away from a pitcher. I would pull him. I think Prior would rather have the rest of his career than a no-no. I would have pulled him 2 innings ago in that scenario. Screw the no-hitter.
  15. Should have been pulled as soon as the no-no was over. Another stupid call by Dusty.
  16. Great game by Z. Awesome all around.
  17. He's all over the place. If he hurts himself I'm going looking for Dusty.
  18. Go out and talk to him. Bullpen better be going. Pull him ASAP.
