  1. I got less than 3 hours of sleep after last night's debacle. If I break out the adult beverages tonight, I'll be out by the 4th inning. I could really go for a nice easy win. I'm zapped.
  2. So glad I stayed awake. It will probably take another hour to get through the tenth, but worth it to watch the Cubs end this.
  3. I've been awake entirely too long for this game to still be more than 6 hours away.
  4. MadBum regresses to Bum, and the Dongsmiths triumph. This ends tonight.
  5. I stopped paying for tv service, but I am willing to pay to stream the mlb postseason. Unfortunately, mlb.tv only allows you to stream if you're already paying for the games through another service. What are my options to stream these games? If I convince mlb.tv that I'm an international subscriber, then I'm good to go. Would that be my best option? Should I get a slingTV subscription and watch it that way?
  6. Back from the service and reunion and all the traveling. Thanks again to everyone for sharing and posting on here. Someone pointed out earlier that this thread was shared with the family, and Len's shoutout at the end of the game against the Cardinals definitely blew some minds. The posterboard collages at his memorial service included the photos that were shared earlier in the thread, and all the stories shared here were discussed all week, including by the minister during the actual service. Bruce Miles even threw him a nod in his Facebook post the next morning by leading with "Greetings from lovely..." It was very clear to his IRL family that this was a real loss to the NSBB family as well, and the response here provided invaluable comfort and laughter.
  7. Made it to town for the service, and I'm showing off the horsefeathering horsefeathers filter to my family who couldn't horsefeathering believe that horsefeathers. ETA - f-bomb plus ing at the end hasn't been changed yet. The more horsefeathers you know
  8. Cubs win today, Cubs win tomorrow = celebrate on home turf immediately after Fred's funeral. I want this.
  9. And if I'm choosing between Cards, Mets, and Giants... Cubs can take any of them, but I'd feel best about the cards.
  10. Cubs owned the season series with the Mets last year, 7-0. We weren't exactly happy with them in the playoffs.
  11. 1) Cubs win tonight, or 2) Clinch at home
  12. I'm ready for that crooked number. Heyward dongs this inning.
  13. Hendricks winning the Cy Young is peanuts next to an 82-win team winning the World Series.
  14. I remember meeting you at that game but I didn't realize all the work Fred did to make it happen. Great story. I completely forgot that it was CT's fault the Cubs got swept.
  15. Wasn't ready for how much dust suddenly showed up in my living room. I thought we cleared it all out of here. Gotta check the air filters again I guess... Thanks for posting. Thanks everyone for Twitter-bombing Len, and thanks to Len for hanging on to that for the potential game-winning pitch. So awesome. Somewhere, Fred is hiding a giant grin behind a pay-it-cool smirk and a cheesy catch phrase.
  16. wtf is a hazelbaker anyway. Horsefeathers.
  17. fwiw, both Rogers and Sharma have recently said he doesn't have a good chance based on what they've heard from writer/voter types. That said, a sub-2 ERA with a no hitter, might make him the favorite. I can see that being the case. But I always come back to.....if not him, then who? Kershaw has the blood of a winner, which makes up for the time missed due to injury and the less awesome numbers.
  18. At this point, with national TV attention and live cut-ins, I don't imagine they mention Fred.
  19. Haven't gotten to watch much Cubs... Only just now learning that Gyorko is pronounced Jerk-o. Takes the edge off my irrational hatred for him.
  20. will he smile if he pulls it off? No smiles, and good-game asspats only. No high fives. He only raises his arms to throw and catch baseballs.
