  1. A priest, a rabbi, and a mullah walk into a bar. They all grab a seat, and they watch the Cubs play in the WORLD horsefeathering SERIES.
  2. There have been a lot of things planned for this week at work, and pushes for involvement have been coming out since early September. Every half-hearted commitment I gave came with the disclaimer that I could be clearing my schedule this week and leaving town. I've always kept a vacation day balance for the end of October, just in case. Deep down, I had always just assumed I would retire before I ever needed to use it.
  3. Duke, I must say your posts as of late have been extremely positive, unwavering, and borderline fanatical. That being said you've been right on the money recently with your awesomeness. Keep up the good work! :hello: I'm trying to see how crazy I can get with the optimism without them making me look silly. I haven't found that level yet. It should happen sometime around May. Of 2024.
  4. Mojo would be giving up his spot in the rotation to allow this to happen. Would it make sense for him to be the one to draft the OP and PM it to a mod who can use it to edit one of Fred's old posts? Is that making it too complicated?
  5. I have a few friends who are opting to go to Cleveland, just because the tickets are so much easier to get. I'm not sure how I'll make it work getting to Chicago, but I will most certainly be there at some point. Won't sell any kids on the black market to pay for tickets, but I'll be down to meet as many NSBBers as I can find.
  6. Being in the military has forced me to swim in the deep end of the meatball pool for many years now. After the Dodgers went up 2-1, one of the meatballest of them all (Red Sox/Pats fan), who was trying to be cool and just engage in conversation because I was on the edge of the cliff, tried explaining to me that the Cubs just aren't clutch. After trying to say that clutch doesn't exist (and predictably getting nowhere with it), I pointed out the late inning heroics in both games in SF and again in game 1 against the Dodgers. "But those were all just aberrations." After the Cubs destroyed LA in game 4, I asked if that counted as clutch. Of course it didn't. So I just said that, in that case, clutch won't get them to the World Series, it will be baseball badassery and bloodbaths. Since Cleveland is almost as un-clutch as the Cubs, I'm assuming there's no way the Cubs can actually do anything clutch in the World Series.
  7. Thanks for sharing. I really liked the WBBM one. Breaking with the special report graphic, then cutting straight to the mayhem on the field and letting it speak for itself gave me serious chills.
  8. I can't believe this happened. I can't wait for Schwarber's PH walk-off dong this Saturday.
  9. I've always had an ambivalently positive feeling toward the Indians. I have a feeling that will wear off at the exact same time that the numbness over making the WS wears off.
  10. I've been assuming all along that I'm making the trip, but I can't believe it's actually time to plan it. I may go for the weekend, not sure yet.
  11. Fred would not have wanted it that way. The man maintained game thread standards! Agreed. Gotta ride the Soccer wave first. Fred should have one if the Cubs don't sweep.
  12. I've channeled Fred, and now I'm going to pregame with Victory Golden Monkey and a bunch of fried stuff. All that's left is for the Cubs to dong their brains out, score at least 8 runs and celebrate.
  13. Greetings one and all from beautiful Evans, GA! The CUBS are 1-1 in the postseason when Kyle Hendricks starts. The CUBS are 0-1 in the postseason vs Clayton Kershaw. The CUBS are 3-1 in the postseason at home. Go CUBS !!
  14. Resorting to homework and yard work to distract myself from this clock that seems to have stopped moving. Desperation play. Odds of success: nil.
  15. I've been beyond excited yesterday and today. I'm rocking the f out to most songs I hear. The kids and I played some back yard baseball today. I'm inviting over every CUBS fan I know because this part of the country exists solely for SEC football, and I need to be around as many Cubs fans as possible. My friends who still don't believe the Cubs can pull it off aren't willing to put money on Kershaw tonight. (Either thats because my excitement is finally wearing off on them, or they know I will fight them for doubting within my ear shot.) Tonight will be epic. And only in the most awesome sense of the word.
  16. All that needs to happen for it to be glorious and historic and amazing is for the 2016 Cubs to be the 2016 Cubs.
  17. A VERY fancy-pants country club (Augusta Country Club, which has property that looks down on Amen Corner from behind the 12th green of the Masters) is hosting a free golf tournament today for the military. They're also providing free lunch and dinner catered by a chef they keep on payroll. I've been looking forward to this all year. Now it's just a way to kill some time waiting for the next CUBS game. (My phone auto-corrected Cubs to all caps. Credit Fred.)
  18. Nothing stops this team. Not Kershaw, not Cleveland's bullpen. The whole lineup is awake and raking. These next two days are going to draaaaag along.
  19. By contrast, when the Cubs get on base, they plan to score. Cubs won't be on base either. They'll be in the dugout, celebrating all their dongs.
  20. You're a spoiled horsefeathers. And it's 8 for some of us. Had to stay awake until 3am to watch the Cubs lose to the Giants last week.
  21. That's why I don't mind spending the money on a 6 pack. Drinking 1 or 2 in a night is plenty.
  22. http://www.victorybeer.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/GM_Bottleshot_2014Edit_WEBTrans-reflection.png Worked out well yesterday, so I'm sticking with the hot hand today.
