  1. My WGN just crapped the bed. AAAARRGG!!
  2. Werth is a combined 6 feet from a 2 HR game.
  3. What's that weird OPS thing Len was talking about?
  4. Hamels melts down this inning. Cubs score five. :pig:
  5. All the teams scare me.... AHHHH I'm freaking out http://videodetective.com/photos/582/024479_19.jpg You ARE freakin out... Man.
  6. They sure seem to know how and where to pitch him.
  7. At least DeRo's seeing a lot of pitches. Good AB, no matter how it ends.
  8. Nice recovery that inning. I'm all about a little offense now.
  9. Did you see the way Soto glared at the ump after strike three? You don't upset Soto and get away with it. I have a feeling the ump's going to be changing his ways...
  10. I prefer Damage, Inc, but I like where you're going with this.
  11. I can't wait to see how this series shakes out. The Phillies are one of the legitimate contenders to keep the Cubs out of The Show, both clubs are doing very well recently, and the top four starters are all going for the Cubs. I would consider a split to be a success, and taking three would be a HUGE statement to the contenders left on our schedule.
  12. I stuck with the douche factor. Sheffield, AJP, Hundley were the easy choices. The Cub killers on rival teams get under my skin, but I treat that as baseball rivalry that can be enjoyable as long as the Cubs still win - yet I still had to go with Corey F Hart too. Cubwaste like Gremlin and Neifury are products of who would win, hands down, were managers included in this poll, so I couldn't really consider them.
  13. I'm normally all about earlier start times, but this is a little ridiculous. If Marquis decided not to have his collapse inning tonight and just not suck, I'd be all about it.
  14. for once, I'll agree with you. It's the greatest Cubs season in my 16 years of being a fan, and yet this board is the least fun it's been since I joined. Why is a historically great Cubs game turning everyone into a-holes? It's a tired, over-played debate, and one from which I normally choose to stay away, but for some reason I can't resist this time, even though I am knowingly solidifying yet another game thread's derailment into the depths of NSBB purgatory. The highlighted remark is pompous, to say the least. I invite you to peruse a game thread void of said reactions of rage over little mistakes. While I was watching tonight's game at a bar and have yet to read anything between my first post in the thread and page 41, I guarantee what you will find in between are people whose hopes for this team are high enough that each one of them has a laundry list of financially and socially debilitating things they would put themselves through if it meant the Cubs would win it all, and each one of those people is enjoying this season immensely. Being at 32 games over .500 ties the highwater marks of both 84 and 69, and it hasn't been topped since 45. Roughly once a generation, a Cubs team this good comes along. That once in a generation has yet to produce a winner, and every last one of us wants this one to be it. Then we watch the freaking Pirates become the third team of the last four to light up our ace, and we watch boneheaded mistakes all night, highlighted by a lazy fly ball bouncing off the inside of a mitt to gift wrap the lead in the late innings. People fling themselves off cliff edges, smash their panic buttons, hide from the sound of the other shoe dropping, jump at the chance to be the first to correctly call this the turning point that turns this team into the 69 team, propose trades sending Z to Boise for a sack of potatoes, etc. They throw their shoes at the TV when an obvious ball 4 to Edmonds is called a strike, and they vow to smash Sori's obnoxious hummer when his stupid little hop returns the lead to the bad guys. Please don't be so ignorant as to believe that hyper-dramatic negative reactions from dedicated fans somehow equates to them enjoying it any less than you are. In a community of opinionated people who will disagree on every last possible topic of discussion, the one common thread we all have is our celebration of those two magic words, Cubs Win. For those of us who have been displaced from the area (9 years and counting for me), having such a community has made following the Cubs incredibly more enjoyable, even when they don't have the same reactions to some points in the season that I do. Every last person who cared enough tonight to post an over-reaction about this game is enjoying this season in their own way, and asserting otherwise is nothing less than pure arrogance.
  15. I can't believe it's not Geovany Soto! The best part of waking up is in Geovany Soto's cup.
  16. mmmmm, Geovany Soto.
  17. I was sitting second row, halfway between third base and the LF foul pole at Camden Yards tonight. Awesome stadium. We didn't have the tickets in hand until the game from the 28th was almost over and showed up just in time for first pitch for tonight's game, and it was a pretty cool experience. I was surprised to see Sox fans in the dozens, and none of them really gave me much crap for wearing my Cubs hat. (Come on, I had to.) Crede made two or three pretty sweet plays, and Alexei Ramirez is really good at baseball. O's seemed to be hacking away at a lot of first pitches and getting into some short offensive innings, and Brian Roberts still thinks he plays here. Also, they threw at Alphabet twice in his first AB, and he took a long look into the O's dugout and the O's bench got warned. I couldn't help but smile.
  18. I'm not superstitious, but I'd prefer that they get above 32 games or at 30 or 31 games above 500. I was less than one year old in 69, but I remember 1984. Those 2 didn't end so well. It can't happen again. My heart can't take it this time. I was younger in '84, able to recover. Now? Wounds like that might take me out. Oh ?? Is that loss to the '35 Tigers still fresh in your memory?
  19. Just do what I do and stay pessimistic. It's more familiar, and not only will you not be surprised if the collapse comes, but you'll be pleasantly surprised if the crash never happens. Win/win. If some crash does come, you'd feel just as bad if you were pessimistic or realistic. I realized this a little earlier in the year, and since then, I've really had no idea how to approach this season. The expectation to win is so foreign.
